Abstract

A ONE PIECE STAMPED OUT PLASTIC FORM DELINEATED SO THAT THE PRE-SHAPED NORMALLY FLAT COMPONENT PARTS CAN BE BENT AND FASHIONED INTO A LOW TIE, AN ADAPTATION WHICH LENDS ITSELF TO USE BY WAITERS, BUS BOYS, RESTUARANT ASSISTANTS, AND ALSO TEMPORARILY FOR FESTIVE PARADING AND CAMPAIGN DISPLAY PURPOSES. IT IS READILY BENDABLE TO PROVIDE AN IMITATION BOW TIE, A V-SHAPED POSITIONING AND STEADYING ADAPTED AND NECKBAND HOOKING AND RETAINING CLIP.

Cl. 2-154 6 Claims ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A one piece stamped out plastic form delineated so that the pre-shaped normally fiat component parts can be bentand fashioned into a bow tie; an adaptation which lends itself to use by Waiters, bus boys, restaurant assistants, and also temporarily for festive parading and campaign display purposes. It is readily bendable to provide an imitation :bow tie, a V-shaped positioning and steadying adapter and neckband hooking and retaining clip.

This invention relates to bow ties and, more particularly, to one which is an innovation in that it has to do with a normally fiat blank whose component parts are marginally delineated and bendably connected in such a manner that the blank can be transformed on the spot from its fiat to its assembled ready-to-wear form.

An object of the invention, generally stated, is to produce a simple, practical and economical bow tie and to produce the same in compact and convenient easy-tohandle fiat form and to enable the user to quickly and reliably convert a normally fiat blank into a ready-towear tie.

Briefly the necktie, construed in its hand-bent readyto-use form is characterized by a single ply imitation bow tie embodying a pair of companion triangulate coplanar wings having their gradually narrowing or adjacent apical ends joined by a relatively narrow neck-like web. A substantially V-shaped adapter or guard is designed and adapted to localize and stabilize the given in-use position of the bow tie. This guard, when in use, is spaced inwardly from and opposed to and is substantially parallel with the bow tie. The median portion of the adapter or guard is joined to a coacting lower edge portion of the web by a complemental part which is designated as a spacing connector. Means is attached to and carried by the upper edge portion of the web and is fashioned into and provides a yieldable hook which is adapted to be conveniently and retentively hooked over the neckband of the users collar.

More specifically, novelty is predicated on the one piece plastic article above described and wherein the guard provides not only a readily usable steadying adapter but embodies a pair of upward and outwardly divergent legs. These legs are designed and adapted to firmly and conformingly nest and lodge themselves in the customarily creased fold between the neckband and the downfolded collar which is attached to the upper edge of the neck band.

Then, too, the concept embodies, in addition to the bendable adapter guard and imitation bow tie, an elongated relatively narrow tongue-like strap. This strap is pliant and is bent upon itself and the bent end portion is properly joined to the upper edge of the web, the free end portion being fashioned into a clip or hook, the bent portion also having a headed stud which is snapped through a keeper hole provided in a tab or fiap which is carried by the median portion of the guard.

These together with other objects and advantages which will become subsequently apparent reside in the details of construction and operation as more fully hereinafter described and claimed, reference being had to the accomice panying drawings forming a part hereof, wherein like numerals refer to like parts throughout, and in which:

FIG. 1 is a view in perspective showing a shirt and collar in phantom lines and showing, what is more significant, the novel bent and ready-to-wear bow tie and, what is more, how it is applied and worn.

FIG. 2 is a section taken approximately on the plane of the vertical section line 22 of FIG. 1 looking in the direction of the indicating arrows.

And FIG. 3 is a plan view of the aforementioned struck-out or cut-out plastic or equivalent blank in flat ready-to-use form.

It will be noted that the several views of the drawing have been planned and are herein presented to enable the reader to visualize the fiat bendable blank or sheet and also the manner in which the coacting component parts thereof are bent, assembled and connected to provide the ready-to-wear bow tie.

Referring to FIG. 3 in conjunction with FIGS. 1 and 2, in that order, it will be evident that the innovation is characterized by the first part which constitutes an imitation bow tie and which is denoted by the numeral 6, a complemental positioning, stabilizing and steadying adapter 8 and a hook-like attaching and retaining clip 10.

The bow tie 6 comprises a pair of duplicate coplanar substantially triangulate wings 12 whose adjacent inward narrowing or apical end portions are joined by a relatively narrow neck-like web 14. The V-shaped positioning and stabilizing adapter constitutes a satisfactory guard and embodies a pair of coplanar relatively narrow fiat legs 16 having outer rounded free terminal ends 18. The inward ends of the legs are connected by a median or bight portion 20 provided on one edge with a tab or flap 22 having a keeper hole 24 and which is bendable when in use (FIG. 2) on the fold line 26. Additional fold lines are provided at 28 and 30 and these fold lines define a substantially rectangular spacing connector 32. This connector is said to be connected to a lower edge portion of the web in the finished or ready-to-use state as brought out in FIG. 2.

The third companion or complemental part which constitutes the hook and also the clip 10 comprises an elongated tongue-like strap member 34 with a rounded free end 36. One end of this strap is integrally joined to the upper edge or fold line 38 by way of what is here described as a bent portion 40. This bent portion is provided on an underneath side (FIG. 2) with an integral depending headed assembling stud 42 which is located and is adapted to be forcibly pushed and snapped through the keeper hole 24 in the aforementioned tab or flap 22 when the parts are assembled as shown in FIGS. 1 and 2 and more particularly in FIG. 2. Additional fold lines are provided at 44 and 46 to assist in transforming the strap into the downbent and yieldable hook or cli as shown in FIGS. 1 and 2.

It will be evident from the disclosure that there has long existed a need for a simple, feasible and bendably transformable bow tie which when its parts are assembled for use lends itself to practical and acceptable use as a festive or holiday tie and which may be colored for parading whether ,it be for legal holidays or other holidays such as St. Patricks Day, Columbus Day or whatever the celebration may be. At the same time and because the article is compact, convenient and economical it can be used as a washable tie for Waiters, waitresses, bus boys and similar employees. Reference to FIG. 3 shows how the blank or pattern can be struckout or otherwise delineated for onthe-spot handling. FIGS. 2 and 3 and particularly FIG. 2 shows how the component parts are bent and interconnected to provide the final or assembled read-to-use bow tie. It should be noted in particular that the apertured tab or flap 22 folds underneath and its therefore overlapped 3 by the bent end portion 40 of the clip-on hook. By snapping the headed pin or stud 42 through the hole 24 the parts are not only held together but a loop-like part is formed and assists in providing that part of the tie which would be designated as a knot. It follows that a tie constructed in accordance with the invention well serves the purposes for which it has been devised. Accordingly, a more extended description is believed to be unnecessary.

The foregoing is considered as illustrative only of the principles of the invention. Further, since numerous modifications and changes will readily occur to those skilled in the art, it is not desired to limit the invention to the exact construction and operation shown and described, and accordingly all suitable modifications and equivalents may be restored to, falling within the scope of the invention as claimed.

What is claimed as new is as follows:

1. A ready-made-type necktie comprising, in combination, an imitation bow tie embodying a pair of companion triangulate wings having adjacent apical ends joined by a relatively narrow neck-like web, a substantially V- shaped guard adapted to localize and stabilize the given in-use position of said bow tie, said guard, when in use, being spaced inwardly from, opposed to, and substantially parallel with said bow tie, the median portion of said guard being joined to a coacting lower edge portion of said web by a spacing connector, means carried by an upper edge portion of said web adapted to be retentively hooked over the neckband of a shirt collar, said means comprising an elongated relatively narrow tongue-like pliant strap which is bent upon itself at one end and fashioned to a hook, said hook being adapted to hook and yieldingly clasp itself over the interior of the aforementioned neckband in a manner to retentively but releasably hold the necktie in its given wearing position, said bent end portion being proximal to said upper edge and being provided with a lateral integral stud having a terminal head and providing an assembling and retaining detent, the aforementioned median portion of said guard having a curved and bent flap underlying and overlapped by the bent portion of said pliant strap and having a keeper hole into which said detent is forcibly snapped and fittingly retained.

2. The necktie defined in and according to claim 1, and wherein the over-all necktie is prefabricated from a single sheet of moldable plastic material marginally de Iineated to embody the complemental coordinating component portions, said sheet being of uniform thickness and having the required inherent yieldable properties.

3. A ready-made-type necktie comprising, in combination, an imitation bow tie embodying a pair of companion triangulate wings having adjacent apical ends joined by a relatively narrow neck-like web, a substantially V-shaped guard adapted to localize and stabilize the given in-use position of said bow tie, said guard, when in use, being spaced inwardly from, opposed to, and substantially parallel with said bow tie, the median portion of said guard being joined to a coacting lower edge portion of said web by a spacing connector, said connector being bendably pliant, and an elongated pliant tongue-like strap having a yieldingly bendable end portion integrally joined to an upper edge portion of said web, the other end portion of said strap being free and form-ed into a hook, said hook being adapted to hook and yieldingly clasp itself over the interior of the neckband of a shirt collar to assist in holding the necktie in a usable position.

The necktie defined in and according to claim 3 and wherein the bent end portion is proximal to said upper edge and is provided with a lateral integral stud having a terminal head and providing an assembling and retaining detent, the aforementioned median portion of said guard having a curved and bent flap underlying and overlapped by the bent portion of said pliant strap and having a keeper hole into which said detent is forcibly snapped and fittingly retained. 5. The necktie defined in and according to claim 4, and wherein said web, spacing connector, median part of said guard, flap, and oriented bent end portion of said pliant strap coact in defining a loop-like member which, in turn, constitutes an imitation knot.

6. The necktie defined in and according to claim 5, and wherein said necktie is made from a single ply of pre-cut plastic material which is normally fiat and bendable by hand from its flat to its made-up ready-to-wear form.
