Jones Attorney-Wham 8!. McManigal ABSTRACT: My invention comprises a novel cooperating yoke and rivet assembly for positively retaining right-angularly disposed concrete form sheets in such assembly for the reception of wet concrete mix for integrally forming walls of a building structure.
RETAINING MEMBER FOR RETAINING CONCRETE FORM SHEETS IN RIGHT-ANGULAR ASSEMBLY in accordance with conventional practice, the provision of metallic forms for molding integral right-angularly disposed building walls such as sidewalls, or sidewalls and a ceiling, entails relatively costly devices which are difficult and time consuming to assemble and disassemble. It is also a well-known shortcoming of such forms that the right-angularly disposed form sheets tend to separate or move out of true right-angular relationship under the stresses imposed by the pouring and setting of the concrete mix.
It is a principal object of my invention to provide, for a concrete form, a novel yoke and rivet assembly which is readily adaptable to being employed to retain the form sheets in true right-angular relationship against the stresses imposed by the pouring and setting of the concrete mix.
It is also an object of my invention to provide economical means for retaining form sheets in true right-angular relationship which may be installed and taken apart with a minimum amount of labor.
it is a further object to provide novel means for preventing the contiguous edges of juxtaposed form sheets from separatlng.
For the purpose of further explaining my invention, 1 shall now describe presently preferred embodiments thereof by reference to the accompanying drawing wherein:
FIG. 1 is an elevational view, partly in section, showing one of my concrete form sheet retaining assemblies attached to a form;
FIG. 2 is a section taken on line 22 of FIG. 1;
FIG. 3 is a view similar to HO. 1 but showing a variational form of the assembly; and
FIG. 4 is a side elevational view of a rivet employed in my assembly.
Referring now to the drawing (FIG. 1), the numeral 5 designates a conventional metallic form sheet for molding the inner or exposed surface of the ceiling of a building structure; and the numeral 6 designates a conventional form sheet for molding the inner surface of a sidewall of the building structure. It will be understood, of course, that, conventionally, there are outer form sheets (not shown) mounted in spacedparallel relationship to the inner sheets whereby to provide therebetween a conventional chamber for receiving the wet concrete mix in the construction of the building.
My novel yoke member comprises a metal yoke having right-angularly disposed legs 10 and 11. Leg 11 has a longitudinal, tapered slot 14 to receive and pass the shank portion 150 of a rivet 15 (FIG. 3) whose inner end portion 15b is larger in diameter than the portion 15a of the rivet.
A rectangular metallic retaining strip has its end portions disposed to be secured to the inner surface of the form sheet 6 as by riveting or welding, it being here shown as riveted. Intermediate its ends, the retaining strip is outwardly bent to provide a passageway for the leg 11 of the yoke.
The rivet 15 has an enlarged diameter headed portion 15b at its inner end; a portion 15a between its ends, of relatively smaller diameter, preferably of a diameter equal to the thickness of the yoke leg II; and has a relatively smaller diameter outer end portion 15: adapted to be inserted through a rivet hole (not shown) in the sheet 6 and adapted to be headed at its outer end to prevent the rivet from escaping from the rivet hole.
Ordinarily, before the form sheets are assembled, the portion 10 of the yoke is secured to the inner surface of the form sheet 5 and the retaining strip 20 is secured only at its end portions to the form sheet 6, and the rivet 15 is mounted on the form sheet 6 in the appropriate position in relation to the slot 14. Thus the form may be readily and quickly assembled and secured in assembly by inserting the yoke leg II through the passageway provided by the retaining strip 20. Of course, any desired number of the yoke assemblies may be employed, the purpose being to employ enough yoke assemblies positively to retain the form sheets 5 and 6 firmly asembled in true rightangular relationship.
it the embodiment of FIG. 2, the parts are the same except that there are two juxtaposed wall- molding sheets 6 and 7 which must be retained against spreading apart during the pouring and setting of the concrete mix; and the leg ll of the yoke is relatively wide and has two laterally spaced slots Ha, 14b, those slots being so positioned that there will be one slot in the portion of the yoke leg 11 which engages the form sheet 6 and one slot in the portion of the yoke leg which engages the juxtaposed form sheet 7.
