Helfand ABSTRACT: A massaging device consisting of a solid-trapezoid-shaped body having a smooth, flat surface on one side and a manipulating hand on its opposed side, and formed of heat-retaining material having noncorrosive surfaces and adapted to be heated in a fluid; the comers and edge of the body being rounded.
SKlN-MASSAGING DEVICE The present invention relates to a skin-massaging device and to a method for massaging the skin.
The massaging of the skin, especially of the face and neck of a person, whether by hand or with a massaging instrument, is best accomplished when the temperature of the skin is raised, as by application of heat during or immediately preceding the application of the massaging action of the skin.
Massaging of the skin, especially the skin of the face and neck, may be accomplished in a number of ways, as by smoothing or kneading or by vibration.
The present invention is, therefore, directed to the provision of a massaging device that will operate by smoothing or stroking of the skin and which will heat the skin as it is applied thereto, to smooth or stroke it.
It is another object of the present invention to provide a massaging device, of the character described, which is of highly simplified construction and may be produced at relatively low cost.
It is still another object of the present invention to provide a massaging device, of the character described, which may be easily and simply heated before application to the skin, and which will retain its heat for relatively long periods of time while being applied to the skin.
It is a further object of the present invention to provide a massaging device, of the character described, which is simple and easy to use and highly effective for its purposes.
It is still a further object if the present invention to devise a novel method or system for massaging the skin while it is under increased temperature.
The foregoing and other objects and advantages of the skinmassaging device of the present invention will become more readily apparent to those skilled in the art from the embodiments thereof shown in the accompanying drawings, and from the description following. It is to be understood, however, that such embodiments are shown by way of illustration only, to make the principles and practice of the invention more readily comprehensible, and without any intent of limiting the invention to the specific details therein shown.
In the drawings:
FIG. 1 is an elevational view of a massaging device, embodying the present invention; partly in section to illustrate details of construction;
FIG. 2 is a top plan view of the same;
FIG. 3 is a bottom plan view of the same; and
FIG. 4 illustrates a method of heating the massaging device of the present invention before application to the skin.
Generally stated, the present invention resides in the provision of a massaging device consisting of a body formed of a heat-retaining material having a noncorrosive surface with a flat, smooth skin-contacting side and a manipulating handle on an opposed side; such body being capable of being externally heated, as by immersion in a hot fluid, such as water or a skin-treating lotion.
More specifically stated, the massaging device of the invention consists of a triangular-shaped body, generally designated as 10, of substantial thickness; said body being preferably of trapezoid or of isosceles triangle-shape, shape, with the sides preferably longer than the base and having preferably rounded corners, 12.
The body is defined by a top surface, 14, and a bottom skin'contacting surface, 16, and by a continuous connecting surface, 18. The body 100 will preferably be formed of a metal, such as iron, or of metal-clad, heat-retaining ceramic material. in either form, the surface of the body 10 may be of inherent noncorroding material or may be coated with such material, as nickel, chromium or the like. The bottom surface 16 of the body is formed to be smooth, for comfort when applied to the skin and to avoid rough contact therewith. Similarly, the connecting surface 18 may likewise be smoothed and its junction with the bottom surface 16 may be formed on a radius and rounded as at 20, to avoid sharp edge at the point of contact with the skin.
A threaded recess, 22, may be formed in the body opening into its upper surface 14, into which may be set a handle, 24, engaged therein by its threaded end 16. Handle 24 may preferably be formed of a nonmetallic material, such as wood or plastic, as illustrated, that will not be readily heated, and may be axially hollowed out, as at 26, to reduce its weight.
In using the device, the body 10 is immersed in a heated fluid, 28, in a container, 30, and, after it is sufficiently heated, the body is applied to the skin of the face or neck by smoothing or stroking. it will be apparent that because of the triangular-shape of the body 10 it may have access by its corner portions to every part of the face and neck; ever narrower or recessed, angular portions thereof.
It may here stated that the fluid 28 may be a liquid such as water or a cosmetic or skin-treating oil, or the like. In the latter case, the massaging device will not only massage the skin surface but also, at the same time, impregnate it with the skin-treating preparation, to thereby impart a double benefit to the skin by the massaging. If desired, the fluid may be in the form of a flnely powdered solid material.
it will be understood that the fluid 28 in the vessel 30 may be maintained in heated state by placing it on a suitably controlled heating device, not thought necessary to be shown, as it does not form part of the present invention, to maintain the fluid in heated state, at preferably desired constant temperature.
This completes the description of the massaging device of the present invention and of the method of its use. It will be readily apparent that such device is of highly simplified and economical construction, that it is relatively simple and easy and economical to use, and that it is capable of affording multiple benefit by its use.
it will also be apparent that the device of the present invention may be varied and modified in numerous ways, by anyone skilled in the art, in accordance with the principles of the invention hereinabove set forth, without the exercise of any inventive ingenuity.
What I claim is:
