UNiT-nn STATES PATENT Ormes.,
OSCAR HAMMERSTEIN, OF NEV YORK, N. Y.
BATH-TUB AND WASH-BASIN.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 360,292, dated March 29, 1887.
Application filed December 24, 1886. Serial No. 222,505. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, OSCAR HAmrEnsrErN, a resident of New York city, in the county and State of New York, haveinvented an Improved Combined Bath-Tub and Vash-Basin, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being made to the accompanying drawings. y
My invention relates to a combined bathtub and wash-basin; and it consists in having a cover for the tub, said hinged cover having a wash-basin therein, and means for supplying said basin with water, as will be more fully hereinafter set forth.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure l is a plan View of my invention. Fig. 2 is a vertical section on the line c c, Fig. l. Fig. 3 is a vertical section on t-he line Ick, Fig. l. Fig. 4 is a perspective view of a modification.
A is the bath-tub, which is supported in a suitable case or frame, B. The tub is provided with a cover or lid, D, hinged to the ease or frame B at the rear thereof, or to the wall-lining, and resting on the edges of the tub,
A when down. This cover has secured to it, under an opening therein, a basin, E, which basin is of the usual or suitable form, and has the outlet a, to allow the waste-water to run into the tub A and thence into the wastepipe F.
In addition to the regular faucets G, the tub may be provided with supplementary faucets H H, which are capable of being turned back against the edge-board b of the case B, as indicated in dotted lines, Fig. l, so as to be out of the way of the cover D when the latter is turned up to allow the tub A to be used. These faucets are supplied with water by pipes d e, connected to the main pipesf, which supply the faucctsG.
In some cases the basin E may be placed near the end of the cover, and the faucets G G placed so that they can supply water to both the basin and the tub, as shown in Fig. 4. The faucets G G in the latter case should be so constructed that they may be turned out of the way of the cover D when the latter is to be raised;
It is not absolutely necessary that the hinged cover D shall entirely cover the tub A; but it may extend over only a part of the tub.
Vhen the tub is to be used the faucets are turned back and the cover D raised and secured by some suitable means in its new position.
My invention has the advantage that it gives a bathtub and wash-stand at a much less cost than previously, and occupies the minimum of space in which they could be located.
Having now described my invention, what I claim isl. The combination of a bath-tub with a hinged cover carrying a basin, and means for supplying said basin and said tub with water, substantially as described.
2. The combination of a tub, A,faucets G, hinged cover D, basin E, secured to said cover, and supplemental faucet H, substantially as described.
3. The combination of a tub, A, waste-pipe F, hinged cover D, and basin E, secured to said cover, said basin having an out-let into the tub, substantially as described.
' oscan HAMMERSTEIN.
