FIG. 7
FIG. 8 FIG. 5 520 5 4 10 2o 64 PAUL N. HALES INVENTOR BUCKHORN, BLORE, KLARQUIST & SPARKMAN ATTORNEYS SHIRT DISPLAY HANGER DESCRIPTION This invention relates to shirt display hangers, and more particularly to shirt display hangers having multiposition clips.
An object of the invention is to provide new and improved shirt display hangers.
Another object of the invention is to provide shirt display hangers having multiposition clips.
A further object of the invention is to provide a shirt display hanger having a clip adapted to grip a collar of a standup shirt package while extending perpendicularly to a hanger body and also adapted to grip a flat shirt package while extending along the hanger body.
Another object of the invention is to provide a onepiece shirt display hanger wherein a clip is hinged to one end of a hanger body having hanging means at both ends thereof.
Another object of the invention is to provide a shirt display hanger having a hanger body provided with a hook at each end and a clip hinged to one end of the hanger body.
The invention provides shirt display hangers in which shirt-engaging clips are hinged to hanger bodies for positions for holding both upstanding shirt packages and flat shirt packages. In a one-piece, molded plastic hanger forming one specific embodiment of the invention, a clip is hinged to one end of a looped hanger body having a hook at each end thereof. In a hanger forming an alternate embodiment of the invention, a molded plastic clip has hinge pin portions which snap into sockets in a molded plastic hanger body having hooks at opposite ends thereof.
IN THE DRAWINGS:
FIG. 1 is a front elevation view of a shirt display hanger forming one embodiment of the invention;
FIG. 2 is a side elevation view of the shirt display hanger of FIG. 1;
FIG. 3 is an enlarged, fragmentary, vertical sectional view taken along line 3-3 of FIG. 1;
FIG. 4 is a reduced, front elevation view of the hanger of FIG. 1 holding an upstanding shirt package;
FIG. 5 is a reduced, side elevation view of the hanger and shirt packages of FIG. 4;
FIG. 6 is a reduced, fragmentary, front elevation view of the hanger of FIG. 1 and a flat shirt package held thereby;
FIG. 7 is a reduced, side elevation view of the hanger and shirt package of FIG. 6; and
FIG. 8 is a front elevation view of a shirt display hanger forming an alternate embodiment of the invention.
Referring now in detail to the drawings, there is shown in FIGS. 1 to 7 a one-piece shirt display hanger 10 forming one embodiment of the invention and including a clip 12 hinged to one end of a body 14 from the ends of which hooks l6 and 18 extend. A hinge portion 20 connects the clip to the body for movement between a position of the clip in or nearly in the plane of the body, as shown in FIGS. 1, 2, 6 and 7, to suspend a flat shirt package 22 from a rack 24, and a second position of the clip in which the clip extends substantially perpendicularly to the plane of the body, as shown in FIGS. 4 and 5, to suspend an upstanding shirt acka e26 fr mthe rack. p The clip 12 includes a generally I-shaped, central finger or tine 30 from a cross member 32 of which side fingers or tines 34 extend in spaced positions. The clip is of semiflexible material and is adapted to have the central finger on one side of a collar 36 and the side fingers on the other side of the collar, as illustrated in FIGS. 4 and 5, or to have the central finger on one side of the package 22 and the side fingers on the other side of the package, as shown in FIGS. 6 and 7, and to securely grip the packages in both instances. If desired, the fingers may be roughened or have tangs to grip the packages.
The hanger 10 is substantially planar, and preferably is of polypropylene. The hanger 10 may be injection molded, or may be cut from a sheet of polypropylene or other suitable plastic and the hinge 20 formed by hot pressing. The hinge 20 is preferably formed by tapered portions 40 and 42. The hanger body, in addition to or in place of the hooks, may have holes 44 and 46 in the end portions thereof for stringing the hanger on a peg or rod. The hanger body lies flat against the backs of both the package 22 and the package 26 as shown in FIGS. 6 and 7, and is hidden thereby. If desired, to hold a flat shirt package, the hanger 10 may be positioned with the tines 34 pointing upwardly and inserted under the back portion of the collar to hold the package by hooking under the collar.
