H. WYMAN.
WARP BEAM.
No. 368,121. Patented Aug. 9, 1887.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
HORACE WYMAN, OF WORCESTER, MASSACHUSETTS, ASSIG-NOR TO MARY C. CROMPTON, ADMINISTRATRIX OF GEORGE CROMPTON, DECEASED,
OF SAME PLACE.
WARP-BEAM.
SPLE! CIPIC'A'IION forming part of Letters Patent No. 368,121, dated August 9, 1887.
Application filed March 1, 1887. Serial No. 22 ,302. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HORACE \VYMAN, of WVorcester, county of Worcester, and State of Massachusetts, have invented an Improvement in W'arp-Beams, of which the following description, in connection with the accompanying drawings, is a specification, like letters-on the drawings representing like parts.
This invention has for its object to improve the construction of warp-beams and increase their strength and durability.
My invention consists, essentially, in a beam or spool composed of a barrel having flanged heads, which are retained in place by metal .15 caps bolted to the barrel, a projecting portion of the cap engaging or overlapping the hub of the flange to retain it in place, substantially as will be described.
Figure 1, in elevation and partial section, shows a warp beam or spool embodying my invention, and Fig. 2 an end view of the beam or spool.
The barrel A has at its ends suitablejournals, a a, preferably made as part of a metal rod extended through the barrel. The wooden barrel is reduced slightly to form a shoulder, as 2, against which may abut the head B, composed of cast metal and havingan open hub, as b, and suitable strengthening-flanges, as b.
The hollow huh 1) receives within it a cap-plate, 0 C, having flanges or projections c c, which overlap or cooperate with the ends of the hub, the body of the cap-plate preferably fitting snugly between the inner side of the hub and the reduced portion a of the barrel A.
The cap-plates C are connected togetherand to the barrel by long bolts D, having each a head and threaded for the reception of a nut, as d, the cap also serving to confine the heads securely in place. The cap plate at the left of 0 Fig. l'may have its holes threaded to be engaged by the threads 6, cut on the bolts, which would enable them to be used as screws I claim The barrel, the heads having the hubs, and 5 the cap-plates having flanges or projections to engage the hubs, combined with bolts or screws to confine the caps in place, the latter holding the heads on the barrel, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two sub; scribing witnesses.
HORACE \VYMAN.
