To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, LoUIs HEYL1GEN-- sTAEDT, of the town of Giessen, in the Great Dukedom of Hessen and German Empire, have invented certain new and useful Improve ments in Machines for Packing Materials in Tubs, Gasks, and Barrels, of which I declare the following to be a specification.

f- My invention relates to improvements in a machine for packing tubs, casks, barrels, and other similar vessels.

` In packing'smallgrained or powdered material it is of great value to obtain a tight packing; I therefore produce a machine by which, by shaking the barrels, tubs, and casks, I obtain the desired result.

My said invention consists, chiefly, in a table, d, resting on a spring-board, b, and liftedy V by a lever, a, to return afterward by gravity comparatively smaller contents more thorleft the lever a the latter returns toits former position Vwith the table d, in consequence of their weight and that of the cask or tub and its contents resting on the table. The shaking of the cask effects the tight packing of the material. The effects of the knocks caused by the cam is weakened by the spring-boardb, and consequently the table d receives a vibratory movement,which is kept up continually.

Thesaid invention is of great value in manufactories of chemicals, sugar, and other similar articles which have to be packed tightly. Small-grained or powdered material can be packed through this means in casks or tubs of 5o oughly and rapidly than by any other means yknown to me. Fig. 2. Fig. 2 is a plan View of the same, the

Having now particularly described the uature of my invention and in what mannerthe same is to be carried into effect, I declare that what I claim is In a tub, Cask, or barrel shaking machine, the combination of the table d, spring-board b, lever a, wiper e, shaft e, cog-wheels e', shaft g, and driving-wheel g', substantially as setforth.
