A. P. MIGEON.
CARTRIDGE SHELL HOLDER. No 366,338. Patented July 12, 1887-.

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ACHILLE F. MIGEON, OF TORRINGTON, CONNECTICUT.
CARTRIDGE-SHELL HOLDER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 366,338, dated July 12, 1887.
Application filed April 4, 1887. Serial No. 233,576.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, AOHILLE F. MIGEoN, of 'Iorrington. in the county of Litchfield and State of Connecticut, have invented a new and useful Improvement in CartridgeShell Holders; and the following is declared to be a description of the same.
My invention relates to a cartridgeshell holder for sprortsmens use, and said holder is adapted to be carried about in the case containing the gun and ammunition, and said holder is employed to hold and support the cartridge-shell while being loaded.
My invention consists of a holder in which there are two or more channels to hold the cartridge-shells. At the sides of these channels there are grooves to receive the flanges of the cartridge-shells at each side, so that the shells will not drop out of the holder or be capable of tipping sidewise. Running lengthwise of the holder in the bottom of the channel are grooves which come beneath the cartridge'primer, and when the said holder is filled with spent shells the old primer can be pressed out of the shells into this longitudinal groove to be thrown away, the holder thus serving the double purpose of supporting the shells while being filled with powder and shot and while the spent primers are being driven out.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a plan view of Fig. 2 is a section longitudinally of the same, and Fig. 3 is a cross-section at the line a; x.
In each of the above figures I have shown some of the cartridge-shells in position.
The cartridge-holder is made of a base-piece, a, end piece, I), and longitudinal side pieces, 0 d e, and between these side pieces, 0 d e, are the channelsff, which receive the cartridge shells, the bases of the shells resting upon the upper surface of the basepiece a. At their (No model.)
lower edges the side pieces, 0 d e, are grooved at c to receive the flanges t at the bases of the cartridge-shells i, and the holder is open at one end, so that the cartridge shells can be inserted one at a time and slipped along, and they cannot drop out or tip sidewise because the flanges of the shells are within the grooves 0, before named. The shells after being loaded can be discharged from the open end of the holder, if desired. There are grooves at 99 in the top of the base-piece a, at the center of the channels f f, and beneath the primers of the cartridge-shells. These channels permit the spent primers to be driven out of the shells while the shells are in the holders, and said spent primers slip out at the end of the grooves when the holder is inclined.
The holder is preferably made of wood, but metal or composition may be employed; and said holder is adapted to being carried in a gun or sportsmans case of usual construction.-
I claim as my invention 1. A cartridge-shell holder composed of the base-piece a, end piece, b, and longitudinal side pieces, 0 d 6, there being grooves in the side pieces to receive the flanges of the cartridge-shells and grooves in the base-piece to receive the spent primers, substantially as specified.
2. A cartridgeshell holder composed of longitudinal side pieces, an end piece, and a basepiece, there being a groove in the upper surface of the base-piece to receive the spent primers and grooves in the side pieces to receive the flanges of the cartridge-shell, substantially as specified.
Signed by me 26th day of March, A. D. 1887.
ACHILLE F. MIGEON.
