- SNOW PLOW. U v No. 364,135. Patented May 31, 1887.

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JAcoB enonners, on TEcUMsEH, MICHIGAN- SNOW-PLOW.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 364,135 dated May 31, 1887.
Application filed March 17, 1867. Serial No. 231,234. (No model.)
T at whom, it may concern:
Be it known that I, JAcoB G. ROBERTS, of Tecumseh, in the county of Lenawee and State of Michigan, have invented new and useful Improvements in. Snow-Blows; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification.
This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in snow-plows of that class designed to be employed in connection with locomotives for clearing railway-tracks.
Devices of this character as usually constructed have a tendency to pack the snow ahead of the plow without throwing it from the rails, two and three locomotives being necessary to force the plow through a drift.
It is the object ofthis invention to construct a plow that will effectually clear the track and deposit the snow upon either side of the rails;
and to that end the invention consists in the peculiar construction of the plow and its attachments,xall as more fully hereinafter set and near the bottom edges thereof, are secured the'flanges O, and to these flanges are adjustably secured the hangers'D, the lower ends of which are provided with any suitable heads,
E, in which to clamp the brushes F. These brushes I prefer to form from strips of suitable rubber hose or other elastic material of alike character, rather than employ a bristle pass under the snow and direct it to the curved mold-boards, which, by their peculiar curvature, discharge it upon either side of the track,
substantially in the same manner as a furrow is turned by an ordinary agricultural plow. The brushes F, being adjusted to rest upon the face of the rails, sweep off such snow as may be left upon them. 7
\Vhat I claim as my invention is- In a snow plow, the combination of the curved mold boards A, provided with the outer lifting-flanges, B, wit-h the inner flanges, O, carrying adjustable hangers D, and brushheads E, the parts being constructed, arranged, and operating substantially in the manner and for the purposes described.
JACOB G. ROBERTS.
