HITGHING STRAP HGLDER.
No. 352.676.v Patented Nov. 16, 1886.
INVBNTOR ATTORNEYS.
UNITED STATES `PATENT OFFICE.
EDWARD R. CAMPBELL, OF AUSTIN, MINNESOTA.
HlTCHlNG-STRAP HOLDER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 352,676, dated November 16, 1886.
Application filed August 9, 1886. Serial No. 210,448. (No model.)
T all whom it may concern:
Be it known that l, EDWARD R. CAMPBELL, of Austin, inthe county of Mower and State of Minnesota, have invented a new and lmproved Hitching Strap Holder, of which the following is afull, clear, and exact description.
My invention relates to the construction of a novel form of bitching-,strap holder that is designed to be attached to theback-strap of a harness just in advance of the hip-straps; but the holder may be attached to other parts of the harness.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specitication, in which similar figures of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the views.
Figure l is a plan view of my improvedform of hitching-strap holder, representing the saine as applied to the back-strap, a portion of the htchingstrap being represented in connection with the holder. Fig. 2 is a side view of the holder; and Figs. 3 and 4. are plan views of Inodied constructions.
The holder is formed from asingle length of Wire, l0, bent downward and inward at 22 to forma loop having laterally-projecting arms,
`then bent downward at 3 to form a shank,
and then outward at 4, and having eyes formed in their free ends.
The holder just described is secured to the back-strap of a harness, which strap is represented at 12in the drawings, by rivets 13, and the hitchingstrap let is formed with an elongated slit, l5, through which the upper button shaped portion ofthe holder is inserted,'as illustrated in Fig. v1. This holder, located as described, serves to support the free end of the hitching-strap, the strap'falling in a graceful curve across the back of the animal, as will be readily understood.
ln Fig. 3 the holder is represented as being bent upon itself just beyond the points 3, so that the button-like loop will be in a plane about parallel with that occupied by the ends of the wire, which ends are formed with eyes, as in the construction heretofore described, and secured to the back-strap of the harness, while to produce the construction illustrated in Fig. 4 it is only necessary to form the eyes after the bends at 3' have been made, and although the constructionsillustrated in Figs. 3 and 4 might be used without departing from the Spirit of my invention, l greatly prefer the construction illustrated in Figs. l and 2, for this preferred construction not only serves as an admirable support for the bitching-strap, but will also serve as a button or stop to hold a liy-net and preventing the shifting of the net, doing away with the necessity ot attaching the net to the back-strap by means of a strap and buckle, or by tying, as has heretofore been done.
Having thus described my invention. what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The bitching-strap holder herein described,
consisting of a Wire bent to form a loop having laterally-projecting arms, a shank portion below the loop, and attaching-eyes in the Tree ends, all substantially as set forth and shown.
EDWARD R. CAMPBELL.
