HEATING ATTACHMENT FOR STOVES.

Be it known that 1, DAVID S. TRIMMER, of Springfield, in the count-y of Clark and State of Ohio, have in vented certain Improvements in Heating Attachments for Stoves, of which the following is a specification.

The aim of this invention is to provide a device for heating sad-irons, which may be applied to and removed from ordinary magazine heating-stoves, and'to provide a shelf or extension which may be used at will in connec tion with this attachment.

Referring to the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 represents a perspective view of my device; Fig. 2, a vertical section of the same applied to a stove. Fig. 3 is a detail view showing the manner in which the shelf is connected to the heater.

Magazine-heating stoves are commonly constructed at the present day with a series of doors or windows in their outer walls immediately above the fire-pot. My device is designed for introduction into one of these doors or windowopenings. It consists, as shown in Fig. 1, of a box-like casting, A, of the form and size adapted to pass snugly within the dooror window opening, themetal being thickened at the inner and bottom sides, that it may the better withstand the heat. At the front it is provided with laterally-extending flanges a, by which it is confined in position and pre vented from falling inward. At the bottom the casting has a transverse rib, b, upon which to rest the heels of the sad-irons, which will bear with their faces against the upright wall of the casting, as indicated by dotted lines in Fig. 1. The upper face of the rib b inclines downward toward the upright wall or surface, so that it will have the effect of holding'the irons flatly against said surface and prevent them from tipping or falling outward. For the purpose of supporting those irons, which are pointed or rounded at both ends, the rib b is provided with notches or depressions c. The upper end of the casting is made without the flange a, and is reduced in width, so that it may be thrust upward inside of the stove above the top of the opening. Thus applied it bears against the inner face of the stove, so as to prevent the top of the casting from being tilted outward when weight is applied to the shelf, hereinafter described.

In order that the attachment may be used as a plate-warmer or for other purposes, I provide the shelf B, the inner edge of which conforms to the lower outer edge of the casting. This shelf is provided with lugs, which engage beneath and behind studs d, formed on the inside of the casting, as shown. These devices serve to hold the shelf firmly in position, so that it will form a continuation of the lower surface of the casting; but they admitof its being readily' detached when required.

My device, when made of suitable form, may be instantly applied to and removed from the stove, and when applied it adapts the ordinary heating-stove for many other uses.

It will of course be understood that the casting will require to be made of sizes and forms corresponding with the openings of the various stoves'in the market.

Havingthns described my invention, what I claim is- 1. The attachment for heating stoves, consisting of the box-like casting A, with flanges a, and reduced in width at the top, as described.

2. The attachment for heating-stoves, consist-ing of the box like casting adapted to enter the stovedoor-orthe window, its upperend being reduced,in width topass within and above the opening, and its lower edges being flanged to limit the inward movement.

3. The box-like casting A, provided with flanges and with the rib 12, having notches c entirely across its upper face, whereby it is hand, this 30th day of November, 1885, in the presence of two attesting witnesses.
