Description
llrvirne Sterne Price,
ATENT ALBEN ANDRElVS, ALFRED ANDREVVS, AND DELBERT EUGENE ANDREVS, OF SOMERSET, BELMONT COUNTY, OHIO.
PROCESS OF FORMING OlL FROM TALLOW AND KEROSENE FOR LUBRICATING, do.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 351,352, dated October 26, 1886.
Application filed February 23, 1886.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that we, Annnn AnDRnWs, ALFRED ANDREws, and Dnnnnn'r EUGENE ANDREWS, citizens of the' United States, re-
siding in Somerset, in the county of Belmont and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in the Process of Forming Oil from Tallow and Kerosene for Lubricating", &c.; and we do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact do scription of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to this specification.
The invention relates, generally, to the manufacture of compounds for lubricating and illuminating purposes, and has for its special object to make tallow and kerosene unite so intimately that the former will not separate go from the latter and be precipitated.
lVe first melt the tallow and pour it upon hot kerosene -.oil in about the proportion usually of about one of the former to four of the latter. We then apply heat until the mixture has been raised to about theboiling temperature. Ve then pour the mixture into a cooling-vessel, where it is kept in continuous agitation until the sensible heat is all given out. Alter this we have found by repeated experiments that the tallow will be held in solution.
If it is Serial No. 192252. (No sperimens.l
intended to be used for miners oil, we introduce soda to produce a white flame somewhat resembling that of the electric. To effect this mechanical union of the two substances, tallow and keroseneoil, the proportions may vary very considerably without danger of an ultimate precipitation, and in practice we vary them according to the special purpose for' which the oil is intended.
Having thus described all that is necessary 40 to a full understanding of our inventi0n,what we claim as new, and desire to protect by Letters Patent, is-
The described process, which consists in mixing one part of melted tallow with four parts of hot kerosene-oil and heating the mixture to the boiling-point, then pouring the liquid into a coolingyessel and keeping it in violent agitation until it has given out all its sensible heat, when the tallow will not separate from the oil, substantially as set forth.
In testimony whereof we atlifv our signatures in presence of two witnesses.
lVitnesses:
F. M. llln'ronurir, 'W. ITARDES'IY.
