BUSTLE.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 359,302, dated March15, 1887.

To all whom it may concern.-

Be it known that I, DANIEL WERTZ, a citiprovements in Bustles; and I'do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon,which form a part of this specification.

This invention relates to bustles; and it consists in the novel features presently to be described, and shown in the annexed drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a perspective view of a bustle constructed in accordance with and embodying my invention. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of a modified form. Fig. 3 is a perspective View of a further modified form.

The bustle comprises the top bow, A, the bottom bow, B, and the intermediate bows, O.

.The bow A may curve upwardly from its ends simply, as shown in Fig. 3, or it may have its middle portion bent outward, forming the curve A, (shown in Figs. 1 and 2,) adapted to fit about the waist of the wearer and prevent any side-to-side movement of the bustle when adjusted in position. The bow A has a loop, A, formed at or near each end, from which springarms a extend, and are connected with the lower bow, B, and keep the bows A and B separated. The distance between the bows A and Bis limited by the connection or'strap D, which is likewise connected with the intermediate bows, O, for the purpose of holding them at a fixed relative distanee apart.

The spring-arms a may be connected with the loops or how A in any desired manner, but preferably form an integralpart of the bow A, as thereby'the construction is greatly simplified and the cost of manufacture reduced to a minimum. Y

The end of the spring-arms may be connected with the lower bow in any preferred way; but for simplicity and economy it has Serial No 221,745. (No model.)

The bustleis secured to the person of the wearer by the waist-strap E, which is secured to the bow A near its middle. Said waiststrap may be connected with the loops A by the supporting straps e, as shownin Fig. 2; or the straps e may be dispensed with and the strap E connected with the bow A on each side of its middle point. From this point straps E extend down over the bows C, as shown in Fig. 1, and are connected with said bows to assist in keeping them at a relative distance apart. The straps E may extend over the bows C only, as shown by full lines in said Fig. 1, or may reach to the bottom how, B,. if desired, as shown by dotted lines in the same Fig. 1.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

1. In a bustle, the combination, with the top and bottom bows, of spring-arms forming an integral part of the top bow and connected with the bottom bow, substantially as set forth.

2. In a bustle, the combination, with the top bow and springs having eyes composed of S 5 a single wire of the bottom bow having its ends secured to said eyes and connected with the ends of said springs, substantially as set forth.

3. In a bustle, the combination of the top 0 bow composed of a single wire having loops near each end, which ends project beyond the loops and form spring-arms having eyes, the bottom bow secured in said eyes and connected with the spring-arms, the intermediate bows 5 having their ends fastened to the loops, and the strap uniting all of said bows, substantially as and for the purpose described.
