Abstract

Field of the invention Applicator type of means train-over the crown of the head and connected to hair-covered areas of the opposite sides of the face for maintaining the same taut for smoothing out lines of the face, lifting the chin line and neck, and tautening the eye areas as well as imparting eye slant, as desired.

2. Description ofthe Prior Art US. Pat. Nos. Re. 21,509 and 2,661,737 show devices having the same purpose as the present invention, the former employing an elastic cord to adjustably connect two elongated clamps that have the dual function of clamping bunches of hair, with the ends of the cord knotted together, and the latter using an elastic band connecting to bobby-pins. A third patent, No 1,629,460, employs a section head band that, by hook means, connects to patch-type devices that adhesively engage parts of the face.

The above patents vary in the form and construction of the hair-engaging members and of the elongated connecting member trained over the crown of the head. However, none of these prior constructions have the advantages of a two-part head-engaging band with respect to simplicity of manufacture, ease of application, snugness and comfort of fit, and ease of hiding the same in the users hair.

SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION The invention comprises, generally, an elongated member at the opposite ends of which are provided means through which short tufts or tresses of hair are threaded and clamped to said ends, the member comprising two similar lengths with means that separably join the same so that the two hair-engaging ends may be connected to hair tufts at opposite sides of he face while the two lengths of the elongated member are separated, the connection of said lengths to train the same over the crown of the head then being effected withslack in said length, and finally adjusting the overall length of the member to desired snugness of fit over the crown of the head by accordingly adjusting the effective length of at least one of said two lengths.

An object of the invention is to provide a face lift device having the foregoing attributes and advantages.

This invention also has for its objects to provide such means that are positive in operation, convenient in use, easily installed in a working position .and easily disconnected therefrom, economical of manufacture, relatively simple, and of general superiority and serviceability.

The invention also comprises novel details of construction and novel combinations and arrangements of parts, which will more fully appear in the course of the following description, which is based on the accompanying drawing. However, said drawing merely shows, and the following description merely describes, one embodiment of the present invention, which is given by way of illustration or example only.

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWING In the drawing, like reference characters designate similar parts in the several views.

DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EM- BODIMENT FIG. 1 of the drawing shows a head with a face lift device 5 in one position of its application. In general, theiie are two ways of using the present device: one, with the ends con'nected to tufts or tresses of hair 6 at the temples and with the device trained over the crown of the head so that, according to the degree of tautness of application, said hair tufts 6 are pulled upwardly, causing the face muscles in that area to be pulled, thereby smoothing out wrinkles, lines, and sagging muscles under the chin and at the sides of the face; and the other, with the ends of the device applied to hair tufts slightly above the temples and the device trained either over the top of the crown or over a more rearward portion of the head so the eye are pulled laterally and slightly in an upward direction for desired exotic effects.

The device 5, as illustrated, comprises two parts 7 and 8, means 9 at one end of each part for engaging and being clamped to a tuft of hair, one part of a connector, as a hook 10, at the opposite end of the part 7, a second part of a connector, as an eye ll, at the opposite end of the part 8, and means 12 to adjust the effective length of at least one of said parts 7 or 8, in this case shown on the part 7.

Each of the parts 7 and 8 is preferably formed of a length 13 of nonmetallic band material, as rubber, synthetic plastic which may be clear, of various colors, or opaque, as desired, and, in addition to being ring of limited elasticity so the same may be placed under snug yet comfortable tension to provide pull on the face muscles at desired degrees of tension. While the parts 13 may have other cross-sectional forms, the same are preferably formed as tapes so they may comprise bands having flatwise engagement with the crown of the head. As shown in both FIGS. 1 and 2, the parts 7 and 8 are approximately the same length.

Each of the hair tuft-engaging and clamping means 9 is shown as a ring 15 connected in a loop 16 on one end of the band 13, and a clip, grip, or the like 17' associated with the ring and connected or hinged at 18 to said loop 16. The member I7 is intended to press, grip or otherwise place retension pressure on a tuft of hair 6 that is threaded, in one or more convolutions through the ring 15.

The hook l0 and the eye 11 represent complementary elements of a separable connector for the ends of the band lengths 13 that are opposite the ends 9. The same may comprise snap fasteners or any other common separable fasteners.

The adjusting means 12 may provide for changing the length of one band 13, as by an adjustable loop 19. As above indicated, such adjustment may be provided on one or both bands 13. The separable connector means and the adjusting means 12 may be combined. By providing a number of eyes 11, or similar loops, for selective engagement with the hook 10, the effective overall length between the ends 9 may be adjusted, as desired.

In use, the front hairs of the head are combed forwardly to create a part 20 across the top of the head. The location of said part may be predetermined, as desired. With the connector parts 10 and 11 disconnected, the hair tuft-connecting and clamping ends 9 are connected to the hair tufts 6 at the ends of said part 20 in the users hair on the opposite sides of the head in the manner hereinabove described. The connector elements 10 and H are then connected while the bands 13 are loosely residing in said part 20, as formed above. The desired tension or tautness may now be imparted to the bands by adjusting the means 12 to obtain the desired tension in the device 5. Finally, the front hairs are combed over the top of the head to hide the device completely. Thereafter, hair styling may be performed in the usual way. It will be noted from FIG. 1 that the connection of elements 10 and ll is at the top of the head approximately midway of the ends 9 and the hair tufts to which they are connected. Such arrangement enables the user to apply her hands to the connection operation more comfortably than if the connection were at the side of the head.

While it will be more convenient to leave the bands 13 separated when applying the hair tuft connection ends 9, and leave slack in said bands, the manner of application may be varied by connecting the bands, leaving some slack, applying the means 9 to the sides of the face with the device across the crown in the hair part with the connector 10, ll centrally, as

before described, and then taking up the slack before combing the hair back into place.

While the foregoing has illustrated and described what is now contemplated to be the best mode of carrying out the invention, the construction is, of course, subject to modification without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention. Therefore, it is not desired to restrict the invention to the particular form of construction illustrated and described, but to cover all modifications that may fall within the scope of the appended claims.

Having thus described the invention, what is claimed and desired to be secured by Letters Patent is:

1. In a facial device for drawing and supporting the muscles of the face by supportive movement under tension the combination comprising, a head engaging band including a first and second interconnectable strap portions, said first strap portion including a fixed loop at one end thereof and an adjustable loop formed by reversing said strap upon itself at the opposite end thereof, a first hair clamp means carried by said fixed loop comprising a ring through which a hair tuft is adapted to e threaded and a clip biased toward said ring to grip the hair thus threaded and retain the same engaged with the ring, hook means adjustably affixed to said adjustable looped end of said fist strap, said looped end movable between positions to selectively increase or decrease the length of said first strap, said second strap portion including a fixed loop at one end thereof, second hair clamp means carried by said fixed loop comprising a ring through which a hair tuft is adapted to be threaded and a clip biased toward said ring to grip the hair thus threaded and retain the same engaged with the ring, eye means affixed to the opposite end of said second strap means complementary to and selectively engageable with said hook means carried by said adjustable looped end on said first strap portion whereby when said complementary hook portions are interconnected said adjusting means on said first strap portion may be actuated between adjusting positions to selectively lengthen or shorten said band to selectively tension or relax facial muscles of the wearer.
