UNITED STATES' PATENT OFFICE.
THEODORE SCHMIDT, OF DAYTON, OHIO, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF TO HENRY H. LAUBAOH, OF SAME PLACE.
OYS'I"ERz BUCKET.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent 170.358.411, dated February 22I 1887,
Application filed December 3, 1886. Serial No. 220,557. (No model.)
To @ZZ whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, THEoDoRE SCHMIDT, a citizen of the United States, residingat Dayton, in the county of Montgomery and State of Ohio, haveinvented a certain new and useful Improvement in Oyster-Buckets; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description ofthe invention, which will enable others skilled in 'the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which forni a part of this specification.
My invention relates to improvements in papervesselsknown as oyster-buckets, and it consists of the formation of the lid with a view to prevent a collapsing of the sides of the vessel, the lid being stiffened by trans- The object is to prevent the bending in of the top of the vessel while the same is being carried, and this is effectually done by the stiffening of the ends of the lid, which is placed Within the top beneath the ends ofthe bail.
'Ihe device as a whole, and in detail, is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, Vin which- Figure l is a view of theblank. side view of the oyster-bucket. View of the lid.
Like letters designate like parts throughout the several views.
A is a' single piece of paperin outline of the form shown at Fig. 1, and which forms the body of the vessel. The lines drawn across the face of this figure are creases, forming the lines on which the paper is bent. Both sides are folded alike. The parts c and d are folded together, and then folded against the sides b, as indicated by the dotted lines, Fig. 1. The
Fig. 2 isa Fig. 3 isa top rectangle at the center forms the bottom of the vessel. The sides and folds are pierced to receive the hooked ends of the bail D.
The vessel has no creasing between the ends c and the side folds, d.
Eis thelid, which has sides each forming arcs of a circle, and ends each forming arcs of less diameter. At theintersection of these latter arcs lines are drawn showing the creasing. At these lines the parts g g are bent up at a right angle, or inclining to lie closely against the ends of the vessel, which are slightly in clined, as shown at g, Fig. 2. The effect of this is to stiffen the lid laterally. IVhen the vessel is filled, the lid is put into the top and pressed beneath the ends of the bail, which holds the lid from rising from its position, and
as a pull on the bail by the weight tends to collapse the sides, the bent-up ends stiffen the lid and prevent such collapse. The notches g g', formed at the intersection of the arcs. forming the outline of thelid, engage between the folds c and d of the bucket, and the circulan bands lie against the ends of the bucket and close the top of the vessel very snugly.
Having fully described :my invention, what I desire to secure by Letters Patent is- The vessel constructed as described and provided with a bail and with lid E, having sides formed as arcs of a circle, and creased transversely and bent at the creases to form ears g g, as and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I affix my signature in presence oftwo witnesses.v
THEODORE SCHMIDT.
