To all whom t may concern:

Be it known that we, MARGUREITE A. SUT- TON and ANNA O. Woon, citizens of the `United -States, residing, respectively, at Arpertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereorpnwhich form apart of this specification.

This invention relates to that class of ladies underwear called safetyvskirts, which will be hereinafter more fully described, and pointed out in the claims. p f

In the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specication, Figure l represents an underskirt with the invention attached to the inside thereof, having the front part of the skirt turned down to show the devices. Fig. 2 shows the inside ofthe skirt, the front part being entirely removed where the invention is applied to practical use.

The object of this invention is to furnish to females subjected to natural issues a ready supply of diaper-cloths when traveling or ab-Y sent from their homes.

A is a skirt made in the usuaiform and manner, and which may be of ordinary goods for suchv articles, or may be of the best silkgum, which' is preferable, as itis fine, flexible, pure, odorless, and durable. It is to be worn entirely on the back, and is fastened by the band E and buckle E', which clasp the waist in front. It canbein use day or night, thereby affording a constant supply always at hand, relieving the wearer of'much anxiety as to accidents and of Vmuch trouble and embarrassment. The outside half, A', is composed of silk-gum, which is to be lined on the inside with the best quality of linen diaper and furnished with two slip-cords, B B', which are fastened at their ends b b to the skirt, as seen in Figs. l and 2. `On each of these cords B B straps c c c from the cords B B.

This skirt, when worn, is placed entirely behind the person, and fastened around thewaist by the band E and buckle E. The pendent strap e, with its buckle e', isin front of the wearer. Vhen one of the napkins is tobe applied, the placket A in the skirt which is next the person is unbuttoned, a napkin is drawn through the opening A and brought under the body, and the end dinserted and fastened in the buckle c. When the napkin is to'be removed, the end d is released from the buckle c', and the whole is slipped into the pocket O on the other side ofthe skirt.

Having thus described our invention, what we claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters-Patent, isv l. In a safetygarment, the cords B B, in combination with the series of sliding pendent straps, and the skirt A, provided with suitable devices to secure it to the back of the wearer, substantially as and for the purposes described.

2. The combination, with the skirt, of the cords, pendent straps thereon adapted to carry the napkins, and the pendent strap attachedto the waistband, substantially as and for the purpose described.

The combination of the skirtA, provided with band E and buckle E, the slip-cords B B',`fastened within said skirt, and the series of straps c, having buckles c', and suspended on the cords by rings b', substantially as described.
