'nrrnn STATES PATENT rrien,
JAMES B. GOLDING AND ORRIN D. W'RIGHT, OF COMMUNITY, NEW YORK, ASSIGNORS TO THE ONEIDA COMMUNITY, (LIMITEDJ OF SAME PLACE.
ANIMAL-TRAP.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 356,635, dated January 25, 1887.
Application died March 24, 1886.
To all wi'zoin it may concern:
Be it known-that we, Janus B. GOLDTNG and ORRIN D. XVRIen'r, of Community, in the county of Madison, in the State of New York,
have invented new and useful Improvements in Animal-Traps,of which the following, taken in connection with the accompanying drawions, is a full, clear, and exact description.
Thisinvention relates to the class of animal- IO traps in whichthe haitpan is arranged between two springactuated jaws restrained from action by a latch lying across one of the jaws and interlocked with the bait-pan.
The object of this invention is to simplify and chcapen the construction of the trap; and
to that end it consists in the improved oon- .strnction and combination of parts, as hereinafter full y described, and specifically set forth in the claim.
In the annexed drawings, Figure l isa plan view of our improved animal'trap in its set position, and Fig. 2 is a transverse section of the same on line x a, Fig. 1.
'Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
A A represent the frame or base of the trap, consisting of an elongated bar, A, from opposite ends of which project two posts, 0 c, on which the two jaws G G are hinged, and an arm, A, extending lateral] y from the aforesaid bar central between the posts 0 c, and terminating with a post, (1, on which the latch Z is hinged, and between the bar A and post (I the hait pan B is hinged.
D denotes the usual bowed spring, which is provided in its ends with eyes, by one of which it is hung on one of the posts 0, and the other eye embraces the two jaws at the ends by which they are connected to said posts.
Heretofore the bait-pan B has been'hinged at the end of its horizontal arm to an extra post rigidly attached to the arm A, and the engagement of the latch Z with the bait-pan was made by an undercut notch in the top of the horizontal arm of the bait-pan, and generally between said bait-pan and its post, into which notch the end of theiatch entered, which latter was beveled for that purpose.
Serial No. 1%,347. (No model.)
In order to simplify and chcapen this construction and at the same time render the trap more durable, we form the haitpan B and its post B in one piece and hinge it directly on the arm A by providing the latter, at points between the post [I and attachment of said arm to the bar A, with two transverse slots, forming between them a bar or pintle which is integral with the arm A, and around this pintle we fold the foot of the post B, which is attenuated for that purpose, and in lieu of the aforesaid undercut notch we employ a heel projection, a, formed on the baitpan hack of its post B. i
This baitpan, with its post and heel projection, is easily cast and requires no extra labor to finish it after it is cast, and, furthermore, the latch Z does not require to have its end beveled to engage the under side of said heel projection 12.
Having described our invention, what we claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
In an aniimal-lrap of the class herein described, the arm A, terminating in the post (i,
said arm having intermediate its length two transverse slots, forming an intermediate pintle integral with the arm A, the bait-pan B, having the heel projection on and post B, both formed in one piece with said bait-pan, and the foot of said post folded aronnd the pint-1e between-the aforesaid slots, and the latch Z, hinged on the post (i and adapted to engage the heel projection a, all constructed and combined substantially as described and shown.
In testimony whereof We have hereunto signed our names and affixed our seals, in the presenceof two attesting witnesses, at Oneida, in the county of Madison, in the State of New York, this 20th day of March, 1886.
