ELBRIDGE L. SCRIBNER, OF AMESBURY, MASSACHUSETTS.
COMBINED TOWEL, HAT, AND PAPER RACK.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 356,380, dated January 18, 1887."
Application filed April 29, 1886.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that l, ELBRIDGE LLEWELLYN' SORIBNER, of Amesbury, in the county of Essex and State of Massachusetts, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Oombination-Racks, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the annexed drawings, forming a part thereof, in which- Figure 1 is a front elevation, partly in section. Fig. 2 is a vertical transverse section taken on line a: a in Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is an end elevation.
' be held, the lower rod being deslgned for receiviug a roller-towel, the upper rod being offset or cranked for convenience in placing articles on the lower rods, all as hereinafter more fully described.
The end pieces, A A, are connected by the three slats B, secured to the rear edges of the end pieces and arranged parallel with each other. The end pieces, A A, are preferably of ogce form, and near the upper ends of the end pieces are journaled the ends 0 of an offset or double-cranked rod, 0, which may be turned back against the wall, which supports the rack, or let down upon stop-pi11s or screws a, projecting from the inner faces of the end pieces. At a point aboutopposite the middle slat B is secured a fixed rod, D, for receiving towels and other articles.
A removable rod, E, is received at one end loosely in a hole, 12, bored partly through the end piece A and at the opposite end in an oblong vertical recess, 0, formed in the inner face of the end piece A, as shown in Fig. 1. A hole, d, is bored through the outer face of this end piece, into the upper end of the recess 0, to admit of withdrawing or inserting the rod E when it is desirable to place onit or remove therefrom a roller-towel. On the outer faces Serial No. 200,572. (No model.)
'VVhen the rod 0 is let down upon the screws a, as shown in full lines in Fig. 2, it may receive a towel, or it may serve as a support for a hat. By raising the end of the rod E in the recess 0, then passing the rod through the hole din the end piece A, the roller-towel it is designed to support may be placed on the rod E. Then passing the rod E back through the hole d, dropping the end of the rod in the recess 0, places the rod E in position with rollertowel attached ready for use. Towel removed by reverse operation. The upper and lower slots B are provided with apertures for receiving the screws by which the rack is fastened to the wall.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. In'a combination-rack, the combination of an end piece, A, having a hole, I), in its inner face, an end piece, A, formed with an.ob-.
long vertical recess in its inner face, and having a hole, d, through its outer face into the upper end of the recess, a removable rod, E, occupying loosely the hole I) and recess 0, and the back B, substantially as shown and described.
2. A combination-rack comprising a back. B, end piece A, formed with rod-holes, end
piece A, formed with rod-holes, oblong vertical recess 0, and holes (1 into the recess, doublecrank rod 0, stop-pins a, fixed rod D, and
loose removable rod E, substantially as shown and described.
3. A combination-rack comprising a back, B, end piece A, formed with rod-holes, end piece A, formed with rod-holes, oblong Vertical recess 0, and holed into the recess, doublecrank rod 0, fixed rod D, loose removable rod E, and hookseon the end pieces, substantially as sh own and described.
