HEEL-BRACE.

To aZZ whom it may concern.-

Be it known that I, OARTWRIGHT J ONES, EDNEY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Saltillo, in the county of Hopkins and State 5 of Texas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Heel-Braces, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.

This invention relates to certain improvements in heel-braces for boots and shoes; and it has for its objects to provide a device which may be readily attached to the shoe, so as to embrace the rear portion of the same and the heel, and support the heel, so that it will not wear unevenly or run down at one side, as more fully hereinafter explained.

The above-mentioned objects Iattain by the means illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figurel represents a shoe, showing the in1 proved heel-brace secured thereto and Fig. 2, a perspective view of the heel-brace detached.

The letter A indicates the brace, which is constructed of metal, preferably cast. The 2 5 said brace consists of a semicircular or elliptical frame, adapted to embrace the rear of the shoe, and having downward side extensions, a, which are provided with inwardlysetting lugs b, which extend under the heel when the brace is in place.

The sides of the heels, on the under side,

may be cut away or recessed, so as to receive ,the inwardly-projecting lugs b, whereby the bottom of the heels and the bottom of said lugs will be flush.

0 screws may be passed to secure the brace to The rear of the frame is provided with an extension, 0, which is curved to fit the back of the heel. The rear extensions may also be provided with a threaded aperture for the reception of a spur, if desired.

The device is attached to the heel of the boot or shoe by. means of screws, as shown in 5 Fig. 1 of the drawings, the lugs on the ends of the side extensions preventing undue wear to A the heel, while the whole so braces the rear of the heel that it cannot wear oif unevenly or become run down at one side. The brace, moreover, forms a support for the ankle, thus rendering the tendency to running down sidewise much less liable. 4

Having thus described myinvention, whatl claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters 5 5 Patent, is

1. A heel-brace for boots and shoes, consisting of a semicircular or semi-elliptical frame having side extensions and lugs adapted to set under the heel, and screw-apertures whereby it may be secured to theheel, substantially as and for the purposes specified.

2. The brace herein described, consisting in a semicircular rim provided with two downward side extensions, the lower ends of said extensions being provided with inwardly-extending lugs adapted to lie under the heel of a boot or shoe, said rim being also provided on its rear side with a downwardly-extending projection shorter than the side extensions, the lower ends of the extensions being providedwith openings for the reception of screws, substantially as specified.
