TOILET TISSUE HOLDER Filed Oct. 12, 1966 IN VEN TOR.
S ran/e L. 8078) United States Patent 3,413,049 TOILET TISSUE HOLDER Stanley L. Smay, 420 N. 16th St., Quincy, Ill. Filed Oct. 12, 1966, Ser. No. 586,166 4 Claims. (Cl. 31239) ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE Brief summary of invention A toilet tissue holder comprising, a cylindrical housing adapted to hold two rolls of toilet tissue positioned one upon the other, said housing including an opening at its top end, the roller portion of said side wall of said housing having a cutout for removing the toilet tissue or the tissue roll from said housing, means for centrally supporting the bottom roll of said toilet tissue within said housing but allowing it to turn freely, a cover having a downwardly positioned guide member to support the upper roll of said toilet tissue thereon when not in use, said guide member extending downwardly beyond the dispensing opening to a point wherein the distance between said guide member and said means for centrally supporting the bottom roll is less than the thickness of said bottom roll whereby the bottom portion of said guide member acts to align the bottom roll onto the central supporting means and whereby said bottom portion in cooperation with said central supporting means acts as the pivot points about which said bottom roll freely rotates, and mounting means for securing said housing to a flat surface.
This invention relates to storage devices, and more particularly a toilet tissue holder.
It is therefore the main purpose of this invention to provide a toilet tissue holder which is adapted to dispense rolled toilet tissue which is adapted to position for use when the supply of tissue on the first roll has been exhausted.
Another object of this invention is to provide a toilet tissue holder which includes a plurality of symmetrically disposed perforations for the purpose of visualizing the contents of said holder.
Another object of this invention is to provide a toilet tissue holder wherein the additional roll of tissue is readily available by merely removing the cardboard center roller of the first roll of tissue from said holder.
Still another object of this invention is to provide a toilet tissue holder which is relatively inexpensive to manufacture, may be reasonably priced, adapted to be used in bathrooms, is of sturdy construction, is of simple construction, and being provided with a mounting bracket for aifixing said holder to a fiat surface.
Other objects and advantages of this invention will become apparent from a consideration of the following detailed description taken in connection with the accompanying drawing wherein a satisfactory embodiment of the invention is shown. However, it is to be understood that the invention is not limited to the details disclosed but includes all such variations and modifications as fall within the spirit of the invention and the scope of the appended claims.
In the drawing:
FIGURE 1 is a side view of this invention shown in elevation and partly broken away.
FIGURE 2 is a top plan view of FIGURE 1.
3,413,049 Patented Nov. 26, 1968 According to this invention a toilet tissue holder 10 is provided with a cylindrical casing or housing 11. A generally rectangular cutout 12 is provided at the bottomside portion of housing 11 to allow convenient removal of the cardboard center (not shown) from housing 11. An upwardly extending bottom guide is suitably centered on the bottom portion of housing 11 and is designed to extend into the center portion of the tissue roll, keepin it aligned but at the same time, allowing it to rotate freely. A circular cover 15 encloses the opening of housing 11. A cylindrical guide member is secured to the center portion of cover 15 for maintaining the top roll of toilet tissue thereon and extending into the center portion of the bottom roll so that said bottom roll may be unwound easily and conveniently. The top portion of said cover 15 is provided with a knob 16 for inserting and removing said cover 15 and said guide 17 to and from the housing 11. It will also be noted that a plurality of symmetrical perforations or openings 18 is provided on the upper portion of housing 11, so that it is possible to visualize the contents within upper portion of housing 11 without having to remove cover 15. In addition, one side of housing 11 is suitably provided with a mounting bracket 14 which is secured thereto in a known manner. Said mounting bracket 14 is designed to firmly afiix housing 11 to a flat surface such as bathroom wall, etc. Bracket 14 may be afiixed to said surface by any known means such as screws, nails, gluing, etc.
While various changes and alterations may be made in the detailed construction of this invention, it is understood that such changes and alterations will be within the spirit and scope of the present invention as defined by the appended claims.
What I now claim is:
1. A toilet tissue holder comprising, in combination, a cylindrical housing adapted to hold two rolls of toilet tissue positioned one upon the other, said housing including an opening at its top end, the roller portion of said side wall of said housing having a cutout for removing the toilet tissue or the tissue roll from said housing, the upper portion of said side wall of said housing having a plurality of perforations to allow inspection of the contents within said housing, means for centrally supporting the bottom roll of said toilet tissue within said housing but allowing it to turn freely, a cover having a downwardly positioned guide member to support the upper roll of said toilet tissue thereon when not in use, said guide member extending downwardly beyond the dispensing opening to a point wherein the distance bet-ween said guide member and said means for centrally supporting the bottom roll is less than the thickness of said bottom roll whereby the bottom portion of said guide member acts to align the bottom roll onto the central supporting means and whereby said bottom portion in cooperation with said central supporting means acts as the pivot points about which said bottom roll freely rotates, and mounting means for securing said housing to a flat surface.
2. The combination according to claim 1, wherein said means for centrally supporting the bottom roll of said toilet tissue includes an upwardly extending perforation of a diameter which is not as great as the inside diameter of the cardboard roll supporting said toilet tissue.
3. The combination according to claim 2, wherein the top portion of said cover is provided with a knob to facilitate grasping means when it is desired to remove cover from said housing.
4. The combination according to claim 1, wherein said mounting means include a mounting bracket suitably attached to a side wall of said housing, and said bracket having a plurality of holes to admit fasteners therein for securing said housing to a flat surface.
