Description

R. L. BLAIR Oct. 15, 1968 HANGER FOR GIRDLES, PANTY GIRDLES, AND THE LIKE Filed Feb. 16, 1966 United States Patent 3,405,854 HANGER FOR GIRDLES, PANTY GIRDLES, AND THE LIKE Ronald L. Blair, 2650 w. Belden Ave., Chicago, Ill. 60647 Filed Feb. 16, 1966, Set. N0. 527,915 3 Claims. (Cl. 223-85) This invention relates to a hanger for girdles, panty girdles, and the like.
One of the objects of this invention is to provide a hanger on which a girdle or panty girdle is supported so that the girdle or panty girdle is in an extended position. This facilitates drying of the girdle after laundering and also permits the girdle to be aired between wearings. With this invention the girdle may be hung up and held suspended in a form which will preserve its shape to a better extent than if it was laid away in a drawer or haphazardly left around. Perspiration and normal body odors which are absorbed by the garment are more readily dissipated if the garment is supported in a suspended position in accordance With this invention. This invention, therefore, helps to preserve the freshness of the garment without the necessity of laundering the garment each time it is worn.
Other objects will become apparent as this description progresses.
In the drawings:
FIG. 1 is a side elevational view of the hanger forming this invention and showing in dotted lines a panty girdle supported thereon, and
FIG. 2 is a top plan View thereof.
The body of the hanger is formed preferably of a single piece of wire shaped to the configuration shown in FIG. 1. The wire is substantially firm but has some resiliency. The body 10 comprises a top portion 12 which is formed of the opposite ends 14 and 16 of the wire. The extremities of said opposite ends are joined together by brazing or the like as at 18. A separate hook member 20 is also brazed at such juncture. The ends and the hook are all simultaneously brazed.
The wire body is shaped to form from the opposite ends 14 and 16 the horizontally extending top portion 12. The outer ends of said top portions are then curved downwardly and inwardly to form the upper curved side portions 22 which then continue downwardly to form the spaced sides 24 of the body. The sides 24 curve and are generally bow-shaped. Extending inwardly from the bottom of the sides 24 is an arcuate-shaped bottom 26. Between the curved upper side portions 22 and the sides 24 a shoulder 28 is formed.
The panty girdle 30 is slipped on the hanger from the bottom and the undergarment is pulled upwardly to the dotted line position shown in FIG. 1, wherein the upper edge of the undergarment is adjacent the shoulders 28.
3,405,854 Patented Oct. 15, 1968 The bowed sides 24 of the hanger will be forced slightly inwardly which decreases the bow shape somewhat and the arcuate bottom 26 will be slightly compressed. This causes the garment to be firmly retained on the hanger in a taut stretched and opened position. The hanger with the undergarment thereon is hung on a rod by means of the hook 20. The undergarment is held in such position until it is manually pulled down and removed from the hanger.
The hanger may be used to hang a wet undergarment and this will facilitate the drying since the undergarment is held in an open extended position while drying. Also, an undergarment when thus supported will permit the perspiration and body odors absorbed by the undergarment to be dissipated quickly due to the circulation of air around the undergarment when held in such a position. The shape of the undergarment will be preserved in a better condition than if it was placed in a drawer or hung on aconventional hook.
While this invention is described in connection with girdles and panty girdles it will be understood that it may also be used to support any other type of womens panties.
It will be understood that various changes and modifications may be made from the foregoing without departing from the spirit and scope of the appended claims.
What is claimed is:
1. An undergarment hanger comprising, a body formed of a single wire member having a substantially horizontally extending top member, spaced side members each outwardly bowed and a bottom member interconnecting said side members so that when the undergarment is slipped on said hanger the spaced side members Will engage the undergarment and retain it on the hanger, a shoulder formed in the upper portion of each side member below the top member, said shoulder adapted to be engaged by the upper end of the undergarment, and a hook extending upwardly of the top member so that the hanger may be hung on a support, said top member being formed from the opposite ends of said wire member which are secured to each other.
2. An undergarment hanger defined in claim 1 in which the bottom is of generally areuate shape.
3. An undergarment hanger defined in claim 1 in which the hook is brazed to said top member.
