Filed March 29. 1967 INVENTORS MAUREEN K. M GUIRE JAMES A. NECKERMANN United States Patent US. 'Cl. 2198 1 Claim ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A hat adapted to be worn by female users provided with means for removably storing items for use by the wearer or others.
Summary of the invention We provide a hat adapted to be worn by female users which has first and second vertically separated compartments arranged one above the other. The bottom end of the lower of these compartments is open and the head of a wearer can fit therein whereby the lower compartment serves as a head receiving cavity when the hat is worn.
The upper compartment contains removable objects such as cosmetics, jewelry, medication and the like which can be used either by the wearer or others.
Thus, our hat can be used to store items otherwise carried in a purse or other carrying means whereby, if necessary, the wearer need not carry a purse.
Brief description of the drawings In the drawings:
FIG. 1 is a perspective view of one form of our hat in use;
FIG. 2 is a perspective view of another form of our hat in use;
FIG. 3 is a perspective partially open view of the hat of FIG. 1 per se;
FIG. 4 is a view through 4-4 in FIG. 3; and
FIG. 5 is a cross sectional view of a modification of the hat of FIG. 4.
Detailed description of preferred embodiments Referring now to FIGS. 1, 3 and 4, a hat is of generally cylindrical shape with an outer beaded, stitched or otherwise shaped decorated surface 12. The hat is divided by a horizontal disc like partition 14 disposed therein between upper and lower ends into upper and lower vertical compartments 16 and 18. The lower compartment 18 has an open bottom end which can receive the head 20 of a wearer whereby this compartment serves to receive the head and support the hat in wearing posi- 3,496,575 Patented Feb. 24, 1970 tion. If desired, straps 22 secured to the interior of the compartment 18 can extend downward therefrom and can be adapted by snaps 24 or other means to form a detachable" chin strap for the hat. Ear muffs 26 can be secured to these straps.
A top horizontal lid 28 hingedly secured at 30 provides the top end of the upper compartment 16 with access to the interior thereof. The top surface of lid 28 carries a decoration 32 which serves as a knob by which the lid can be opened or closed.
The interior of the compartment 16 can contain lipstick 34, hairbrush 36, pill boxes 38 and the like for use by the wearer or others as previously discussed.
FIG. 2 shows the same type of structure except that the hat 10 has a square shaped cross section.
In both of the hats described above, the upper compartment is relatively deep and the lower compartment is relatively shallow. FIG. 5 shows a hat 10 wherein the upper compartment 16 is shallow and the lower compartment 18' is relatively deep. Moreover, the lid 28 is not used. The items to be stored can be clipped detachably to the periphery and will not fall out in the absence of the lid. Alternatively, feathers 42 can be permanently secured to the periphery at 40 for decoration.
Having thus described our invention, we claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent:
1. A cap adapted to be worn by female users and comprising:
a vertical hollow rigid structure having open top and bottom ends, a rigid horizontal partition abutting the entire inner periphery of said hollow structure disposed therein intermediate the ends to define first and second vertically separated compartments arranged one above the other, said bottom end having means to secure said cap to a wearer and being adapted to receive the head of a wearer whereby the lower compartment defines a head receiving cavity; and
a generally flat rigid lid having a central upstanding knob hingedly secured to the top end of the structure and adapted to be opened and closed to provide access to or to seal olf the upper compartment, the upper compartment being adapted to receive removable items for use by the wearer of the hat or others.
