Description
Oct. 7, 1969 o. DELLAGUZZO VEST WITH DETACHABLE CUMMERBUND Filed June 8, 1967 INVENTOR. DOMlNlCK DELLAGUZZO United States Patent 3,470,567 VEST WITH DETACHABLE CUMMERBUND Dominick Dellaguzzo, 411 E. 53rd St., New York, N.Y. 10022 Filed June 8, 1967, Ser. No. 644,684 Int. Cl. A4111 1/04 US. Cl. 2102 Claims ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE The invention comprises a combination garment including a reversible vest with a detachable reversible cummerbund. The cummerbund is detachably connected to the lower edge of the vest with suitable fastening means of the bayonet or snap type. Both cummerbund and vest may be reversible to provide different color combinations and both may be arranged to be fastened in single breasted or double breasted fashion.
This invention relates to a combination garment generally comprising a vest and a detachably connected cummerbund.
The vest is generally conventional but has connected to its lower edge, fasteners of the snap or bayonet type, or eyelets for use with fasteners so that a cummerbund may be connected along the lower edge of the vest.
The vest and the cummerbund may be made reversible so as to provide a variety of different color combinations. For instance, when wearing with formal attire.
Accordingly, a principal object of the invention is to provide new and improved garment means,
Another object of the invention is to provide new and improved garment means including a vest with a detachable cummerbund whereby the vest and the cummerbund may be worn single or double breasted.
Another object of the invention is to provide a new and improved garment combination generally comprising a vest, a cummerbund, and means to detachably connect the cummerbund to the vest along the lower edge of the vest.
Another object of the invention is to provide new and improved combination garment means including a reversible vest, a reversible cummerbund, and fastening means adapted to detachably connect the cummerbund with the vest.
These and other objects of the invention will be apparent in the following specification and drawings of which:
FIGURE 1 shows a front view of the garment fastened as a double breasted vest and cummerbund.
FIGURE 2 shows a front view of the garment fastened as a single breasted vest and cummerbund.
FIGURE 3 shows an exploded view of a vest and cummerbund fastened in double breasted fashion.
FIGURE 4 shows a cummerbund connected in single breasted fashion.
FIGURE 5 shows a detail sectional view illustrating the use of bayonet type fasteners.
FIGURE 6 shows a detail view illustrating view of snap type fasteners.
Referring to the drawings the invention generally comprises a vest 1 having front panels 1a and 1b which may be generally conventional except that it has a plurality of fastening devices 2, 3, 4, and 5 connected along its lower edge. The vest 1 may be of the type having an upper member adapted to fit around the back of the neck together with an elastic waist band, not shown.
The purpose of the fastening devices is to detachably connect a cummerbund 6 having panels 6a and 6b to the lower edge of the vest. The cummerbund has corresponding fasteners devices 2', 3, 4' and 5' which are adapted to connect to the corresponding fasteners on the vest.
The fastening devices 3 and 4 on the vest and 3 and 4' on the cummerbund are arranged in a double row to form the means for securing the panels of the vest and cummerbund in single or double breasted fashion.
FIGURE 3 shows a cummerbund connected in double breasted fashion so that only two rows of fastening devices show.
FIGURE 4 shows the same cummerbund 6 connected in single breasted fashion so that an additional row of connecting members 7, 7a, etc. are shown.
FIGURE 5 shows a sectional detail view showing a portion of the lower edge of the vest 1. The lower edge of the vest has an eyelet 4a and the upper portion of the cummerbund has corresponding eyelets 4b and 40. A bayonet type fastener 10 is connected through the eyelets. This fastener has a decorative head, and comprises a straight pin member which is adapted to be held by a friction clip 10' at the other side in the same manner as the so called tie-tacks. Corresponding fastener members Ill, 12, and 13 are provided to complete the front closure of the cummerbund and they may be arranged in three rows to accommodate both single or double breasted fastening.
FIGURE 6 shows another detail view which is the same as that of FIGURE 5 except that snap fastener 15 and 16 are mounted on the vest portions which are adapted to contact corresponding snap fasteners 16' and 17' on the cummerbund. The cummerbund 6 preferably has pleats 6a and 6b to enhance the appearance.
Note that both of the fastener arrangements of FIG- URES 5 and 6 are adapted to reversibly connect the cummerbund to the vest. Preferably, both cummerbund and vest are reversible so that a maximum number of color or design combinations may be used. If desired, pockets l8 and 19 may be incorporated in the cummerbund.
What is claimed is:
1. A composite garment comprising a vest member having front panels, each panel having a front edge portion, a side edge portion, and a lower edge portion, said front edge portions adapted to lie in overlapped relation to form a front closure;
21 cummerbund member comprising two panels, each panel having a front edge portion, a side edge portion, and a top edge portion, said front edge portions adapted to lie in overlapped relation to form a front closure;
vertical rows of fastening means detachably connecting said overlapping portions of both members and some of said fastening means connecting said members to each other at their said respective lower and upper edges, further fastening means at the juncture of said side and respective said lower and upper edges detachably securing said members together whereby the upper edge of said cummerbund member is detachably secured in overlying relationship to the lower edge portion of said vest member thereby forming said composite garment.
2. The garment as in claim 1 wherein said cummerbund member and vest member are reversible and a portion of said fastening means are removable and adapted to connect said vest member to either side of said cummerbund member.
