UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
FRIEDRICH \VILHELM MBLLER, OF BERLIN, GERMANY.
PRESSER-FOOT FOR SEWING-MACHINES.
SPECIFICATION forming part ofLetters Patent No. 346,601, dated August 3, 1883.
Application filed January 20, 1886. Serial No. 189,153. (No model.)
To all whom, it may concern.-
Be it known that I, FRIEDRICH WILHELM MULLER, a subject-of the King of Prussia, residing at Berlin, in the Kingdom of Prussia, German Empire, have invented new and useful Improvements in Sewing Machines, of which the following is a specification.
' This invention relates to a new manner of fastening the presser-foot of a sewing-machine to the head of the presser-bar, so that the presser-foot may be rapidly and easily removed or replaced.
The invention consists in the elements of construction hereinafter more fully pointed out.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a side elevation of a presser-foot and presserfoot bar embodying my invention. Fig. 2is a Fig. 3 is a cross-section on line at m, Fig. 1. Fig. 4is a face view, and Fig. 5 a side view, of the presser-foot.
The letter (t represents a presser-foot having the usual hook-shaped form, and provided with a notched shank, e. The presser-bar A U is surrounded near its lower end by a clasp or head, B, having one fixed jaw, B.
b is the movable jaw of head B, pivoted thereto by pivot c, The jaw b has a rearward extension, 1), against which the end of a setshank.
screw, (1, is made to bear. This screw is fitted into a corresponding opening in head B.
D is a set-screw for attaching head B to bar A.
To introduce the presser-foot into the head, the jaw 12 is first opened, and then the shank e is slipped between the jaws. Next the setscrew d is turned up, so that thejaw b enters and bears against the notched part of the To remove the presser-foot, the screw (1 is turned back, and then the presser-foot falls out of the head.
I claim as my invention- 1. The combination of bar A and head B, having fixed jaw B, with pivoted jaw I), having rearward extension I), and with the set-- screws (1 D, substantially as specified.
2. The combination of bar A and head B, having a fixed and a movable jaw, with presser-foot at, having notched shank c, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to thisspecification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
FRIEDRICH WILHELM MULLER.
