To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, WOODFORD D. NEW- LIN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Annapolis, in the county of Crawford and State of Illinois, have invented certain new. and useful Improvements in Kitchen-Cabinets, of which the following is a specification, reference being bad therein'to-the accompanying drawings.
My invention relates to that class of devices that combine in one several articles of kitchen or household furniture; and it consists in a novel construction and arrangement of parts, as hereinafter described, and specifically set forth in the claims.
Figure 1 is a perspective view of my improved kitchcn-cabinet.- Fig. 2 is a transverse vertical section of the same on line as of Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a transverse vertical parts in all the cated two flour-bins, B, extending from the front wall, B, to the rear wall, A". One of the bins B is provided in its upper portion with a sliding shelf, B, which rests in grooves b, formed in cleats b Said shelf is, large enough to hold the rolling-pin, flour-sieve, biscuit-cutter, &c. The bins B are closed .with a sliding cover, B that rests in an inclined position on the beveled end b of the cleats, and when it is desired to take flour from the bin the cover is pushed back out of way upon the cleat b", above the shelf B". Said cover B is provided on its under side with a projecting catch, 1), fastened thereto to prevent its sliding off, and a handle, b, on the front edge thereof. When the cover B is in its normal position, it rests on the slides b, and the catch bears against the wall B, as shown in Fig. 2. Above the flour-bins B are located a series of drawers, 0 and O. The drawer C may be used for cofi'ee or tea, 800., while the drawer 0, being intended to reforations c therein.
(No model.)
ceive sugar,is rendered insect or ant proof by means of a close-fitting cover, 0, of sheet metal, having its edges inserted into side grooves, o, and the forward portion enters a groove, 0, in the front of the drawer. This cover 0" is rigidly attached to the back wall, A, by nails, screws, 850.. passing through per- Other drawers, as G and C are located on one side of G, and one above the other. C is for knives, forks, spoons, &c.,while O is provided with aseries of compartments for different spices, &o. Above said drawers are a series of shelves, D, for dishes and other articles for the table. Said shelves are protected from dust, 8:70., by hinged doors D on the front thereof. Between the sides A and A", and at the lower portion thereoliis a ventilated provision-safe, it, provided at its upper forward portion with a long horizontal slot to receive a kneading-board,E, upon cleats e,attached to the sides A and A". Said safe is provided on the front with two hinged doors, E", and in the interior with a series of shelves, E provided with perforations e. The back wall, A is provided at its upper portion with a series of perforations, e", to allowa current of air to circulate through the perforations e and e", as indicated by the arrows. When it is desired to use the kneading-board E, it can be removed from its resting-place and placed upon the top E, and close to the flour-bins at its side. Above the provisionsafe E are arranged a series of shelves, F, in continuation of the shelves D; but these shelves and their outer end support may be dispensed with,if desired.
Having now fully described my invention,I claim- In a kitchen-cabinet, a drawer, 0', provided with grooves c in the upper portion of the sides and front of the drawer, in combination with the sheet-metal cover 0*, having its rear end bent and provided with perforations 0 to receive fastenings to secure it to the back wali, A", of the cabinet, substantially as and for the purpose described.
