FOLDING BABY-CARRIAGE.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 332,757, dated December 22, 1885.

Application filed May 29, 1885. Serial No. 167,102.

To all whom it may concern.-

Be it known that I, OHARLEs SEEL, a citizen of the United States, residing at Philadelphia, in the county of Philadel phia and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Baby-Carriage, of which the following is a specification.

My invention relates to improvements in carriages which can be folded together; and the objects of my improvements are, first, to provide a carriage occupying less space when not in use; second, to afford better facilities in shipping them. I attain these objects by the mechanism illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figurel is a perspective view of entire body of carriage and running gear. Fig. 2 is a side view of runninggear open, and Fig. 3 the smile as Fig. 2, with running-gear closed. Fig. 4 is a top view of running-gear as it appears when the body, wheels, and springs of carriage are removed; and Fig. 5 is the same view as last with running-gear closed.

Similar letters refer to similar parts throughout the several views.

The side bars, t t, and cross-bars d d, acting as axles, constitute the frame-work of runninggear. The handles a a, with cross-bar h at the top, act as levers, and are attached to end of side bars, t t, by hinges, allowing the lower portions of handlesa a to project, and to which portions are hinged the braces e e, and these are attached to front cross-bar, d, by hinges. The cross-bars cl d have hinges i t i z in the center and at each end, allowing them to close inward, and which attaches them to side bars,

The handles a a have control of crossbars (2 d by being attached to the front crossbar, d, by the braces e e, and to the rear crossbar, d, by the combination of braces ff, hinged to slides a 0, which are kept in place by boxes is k. The handles a a are attached to slidesc 0 by a pin running in a slot in the centers of them. The tops of handles a a have a crossbar, h, attached with hinges in the center and at each end, and have a slide to cover center hinge to hold it firm when open, as seen in Fig. 4.. There are braces b b hinged to side bars, t t, which pass through slots at n in the handles a a, and in which they are fastened by a pin, when carriage is open for use, to render the structure firm.

The carriage-body g is composed of two side parts, 0 o, and two ends, I Z, which have hinges in center, and toward sides 0 0 it has a bottom of two pieces,open in the center, and attached to sides 0 0 by hinges folding upward, and the whole is attached to running gear by springs m m.

I am aware that previous to my invention baby-carriages have been made with folding body and folding running-gear; I therefore do not claim such a combination, broadly; but
