UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
CHARLES E. BARNES, OF PATERSON, NEW JERSEY.
BRAlD-BOARD.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 332,038, dated December 8, 1885.
Application filed April 22, 1885. Serial No. 163.078. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, CHARLES E. BARNES, of Paterson, in the county of Passaic and State of New Jersey, have invented a new and Improved Braid-Board, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
My invention relates to the boards or cards on which braids, bindingtape, and similar goods are wound; and the invention consists of a braid board or card made in two parts, connected at the ends so that theboard or card and the braid wound thereon may be opened out and placed upon a reel for convenience in unwinding the braid from the board.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, in which similar letters of reference indicate cor responding parts in all the figures.
Figure l is a perspective view of a braidboard made in accordance with my invention. Fig. 2 is an edge view of the same as it appears when braid is wound thereon. Fig. 8 is a front elevation of the board and braid as they appear when placed upon a reel for unwinding the braid, and Fig. 4 is a sectional elevation of the same on the line a: w of Fig. 3.
A represents my new braid board or card on which braid, tape, binding, or similar material may be wound in the ordinary way, the same being wound first endwise of the board, as at b, then edgewise, as at c. The board A is by preference made of card-board and made double, of the two parts a a, which are connected at the ends, preferably by the connectmay turn freely upon the bolt or pin, thus permitting the braid to be conveniently drawn off from the card. When the board and braid are to be used, the portion 0 of the braid that is wound upon the board edgewise will first be unwound, then the board will be openedthat is, the parts a a will be spread apart, and then the board and portion 12 of braid will he slipped upon or over the ends of the reel 0, which will revolve and permit the remainder of the braid to be unwound without twisting the braid.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
As a new article of manufacture, the braidboard A, made of two flexible parts, a, attached at the parts t, being adapted to be spread and placed on he reel ends, substantially as and for the purposes set forth.
CHARLES E. BARNES.
