Description

April 18, 1967 R. E. MINOGUE 3,
CLIPS WITH DUAL CLAMPING DEVICES Filed July 6, 1965 i 22 FIG.8.
United States Patent 3,314,120 CLIPS WITH DUAL CLAMPING DEVICES Roland E. Minogue, 515 S. M St., Lake Worth, Fla. 33460 Filed July 6, 1965, Ser. No. 469,731 13 Claims. (Cl. 24137) This invention relates to improvements in clips with dual clamping devices and is particularly designed and adapted to hanging up rubbers, overshoes, boots, shoes or anything of this nature where a pair of things is desired to be kept together and at the same time held in separate clips.
The object of this invention is to provide a clip with dual clamping devices that will increase the use of this type of clip in numerous ways.
Another object of this invention is to provide a clip with dual clamping devices for the purpose specified, capable of holding heavier articles than the existing clip of this size, which will be simple in construction, strong and durable, and easily assembled, whose parts consist of a pivoted hanger hook, and a spring interlock, two opposite ja ws, two opposite handles, a common center piece, called a tongue, so shaped that the jaws pivot around it, and a spring arrangement which will urge the jaws into mutual engagement with the central tongues and thus form two individual holding devices.
With the foregoing and other objects in view, which will be made manifest in the following detailed description and specifically pointed out in the appended claims, reference is had to the accompanying drawings for an illustrative embodiment of the invention, wherein;
FIGURE 1 is a perspective view of the improved clip with dual clamping devices embodying the present invention.
FIGURE 2 is a view in side elevation of the same.
FIGURE 3 is a sectional view taken substantially upon the line AA upon FIGURE 1.
FIGURE 4 is a sectional View taken substantially upon the line B-B upon FIGURE 1.
FIGURE 5 is a sectional view taken substantially upon the line C-C upon FIGURE 1 with an accessory sling added for illustration purposes.
FIGURE 6 is a front view of FIGURE 5 with an accessory sling added for illustration purposes.
FIGURE 7 is a side elevation view of FIGURE 6 with an accessory sling added for illustration purposes.
FIGURES 8 and 9 are front and top plan views of the sling used for illustration.
Describing my invention with particular reference to the drawings, the operating parts of the clip with dual clamping devices consists of a pivoted hanger hook I with collar 2 rigidly attached to it a short distance above the lower end. The lower end of the pivoted hanger hook 1 extends into a guiding hole 3, FIGURE 3, in the upper end of the common center part 4.
The common center part, called a tongue, is so shaped that the outer parts 5 and 6 pivot around it. The lower end of the tongue acts as a spacer between the articles held while the upper end acts as a guide for the pivoted hanger hook 1 and also centers the tongue 4 between the parts 5 and 6 when the jaws 7 and 8 are wide open.
Parts 5 and 6 provide opposite jaw portions 7 and 8 and handle portions 9 and 10. The handle and jaw portions are an-gul-arly related to each other so that when the jaws are closed the handles are open or spaced from each other as shown in FIGURE 1, conversely as the handles are pressed together the jaws are opened. Projections 11 and 12 on the outer parts 5 and 6 are used for the lifting of the clip and load when the pivoted hanger hook is not used. Grooves 13 and 14 in which is inserted the anchor tie 21 of the accessory sling 22 are used to 3,314,120 Patented Apr. 18, 1967 support the accessory sling when it is not in use. Grooves 1-5 and 16 are grooves into which the lower ends of the springs 17 and 18 are inserted.
Springs 17 and 18 are identical, one on each side of the clip and are so shaped that they keep the center tongue 4 and the outer parts 5 and 6 in line. Spring interlock 19, whose lower ends are shaped so that they hook onto the straight cross piece of the springs, hook onto the springs 17 and 18 in the center between the loops, it then extends over the top of the tongue 4 and is held in place by the pivoted hanger book 1 which extends through the hole 20 in the top of the spring interlock 19. Clearance between the top of tongue 4 and the top of the spring interlock 19 is allowed for the collar 2 which is an integral part of the pivoted hanger hook 1. The pivoted hanger hook thus carries the load through the spring interlock 19 and thesprings 17 and 18 whose lower ends are inserted in the grooves 15 and 16.
Among other important advantages inherent to the clip with dual clamping devices embodying my invention and improvements, are the following:
(1) Due to the design of springs 17 and 18 with the double loop, an increased holding grip is obtained when the jaws 7 and 8 are urged against the center tongue 4.
(2) Due to the fact that the spring arrangement with the spring interlock and pivoted hanger hook support the entire weight of the clip and the articles being held, the heavier the article the tighter the holding grip of the jaws as the loops in the springs are decreased in diameter.
(3) Due to the design of the clip for handling articles and the projections 11 and 12 for lifting the clip and articles being held, when desired the clip may be used in many places such as homes, schools, check rooms, clubs, and similar places for the storing or checking of rubbers, shoes, boots, overshoes and similar articles without the necessity of handling the article being stored or checked, directly with the hands.
(4) Due to the fact that one end of the accessory sling 22 is supported when used, by the anchor tie 21 in grooves 13 or 14, it is always handy and available for the many uses to which it is adapted, such as hanging fish-poles, guns and similar articles in camps, and many garden tools and similar articles around homes and places where these articles are desired to be stored.
Various changes may be made in the detail of construction without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention defined by the appending claims. The clip with dual clamping devices may be designed. and constructed of difi'erent materials, such as plastics, having certain qualities with respect to stresses.
I claim:
1. A clip with dual clamping devices, with three integral parts, a central and two outer parts, having two identical springs, and interlocked with a supporting hook so that the pressure of the clamping devices increases with the weight of the articles being supported, has means for lifting the clip and the articles being supported without the use of the supporting hook and has means providing support for a sling in conjunction with the clip when it is desired.
2. A clip with dual clamping devices as described in claim 1, whose supporting hook is pivoted and held in place by a guide hole in the top of the center part.
3. A clip with dual clamping devices as described in claim 1, that has a collar or a similar projection rigidly attached to the supporting hook in a manner such that it will carry the weight of the clip and the articles it is supporting.
4. A clip with dual clamping devices as described in claim 1, whose center part has a guide hole in its upper end.
5. A clip with dual clamping devices as described in claim 1, having a spring interlock connecting the supporting hook and the Springs.
6. A clip with dual clamping devices as described in claim 1, having a spring interlock that clamps the springs against the sides of the clip.
7. A clip with dual clamping devices as described in claim 1, having a spring interlock whose lower end hooks onto the springs and whose upper end is held in place by the supporting hook.
8. A clip with dual clamping devices as described in claim 1, having springs clamped against the sides of the clip that holds the central and outer parts in line.
9. A clip with dual clamping devices as described in claim 1, in which the identical springs are positioned on one side of the central and outer parts.
10. A clip with dual clamping devices as described in claim 1, in which the springs have two independent loops in each spring.
11. A clip with dual clamping devices as described in claim 1, in which the two identical springs have opposite lower ends which are inserted into aligned grooves in the outer parts of the clip.
12. A clip with dual clamping devices as described in claim 1, whose outer parts have projections for forming the means for lifting the clip and articles being supported.
13. A clip with dual clamping devices as described in claim 1, whose outer parts have grooves to support a sling when it is desirable to use a sling in conjunction with the clip.
