W. HpLlLLY.
GIGAR TIP GUTTER.
No. 330,597. Patented Nov.`1'7, 1885.
R O T N E V N UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
WILLIAM H. LILLY, OF READING, ASSIGNOR rIO HENRY B. GRAULEY, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA.
CIGAR-TIP CUTTER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 330,597, dated November 17, 1885.
Application filed June 13, 1885. Serial No. 168,581. (No model.)
To @ZZ whom/'it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM H. LILLY, a citizen of the United States, residing in the city of Reading, county of Berks, State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Cigar-Tip Cutters, which improvement is fully set forth in the following specification and accompanying drawings, in which- Figure l represents a top or plan view of a cigar-tip cutter embodying my invention; Fig.
2 represents a side elevation thereof. Fig. 3
represents a vertical section thereof.
Similar letters of reference represent corresponding parts of the several figures.
My invention relates to cigar-cutters; and it consists in certain improvements in the device for which Letters Patent No. 318,995, of date June 2, 1885, were obtained'by me, said improvements consisting in constructing the cigar-cutter with a base having a detachable drawer, and also with means of particular form forsupporting the spring-guide, in which the plunger operates, and other details, as will be hereinafter fully set forth and described.
Referring to the drawings, A represents a stand, and B the base thereof, said stand and base being hollow. C represents a plunger, provided at top with a pad or handle for convenience of depressing the same. Vithin the stand are blades D, which are attached to the plunger C, and made of spring metal, so that their cutting-edges press closely against the inner face of the stand, and thus easily and nicely cut the cigar-tips introduced through the openings in the sides of the stand. In order to restore the blades to their normal position, I employ a spring, E, which bears upwardly against the plunger C, and is tted in a guide, F, the latter being supported on a cross-bar, G, which is screwed or otherwise secured to thelower end of the stand A. Within the base B is a drawer, H, for collecting the tips, as severed from the cigars, and on out liability to clog or collect at the base of the column. The bottom board, K, is detachably secured to the base, so that it may be removed and access had to the bar G, for displacing the same and the other interior parts of the stand above said bar for sharpeningthe blades and supplying a fresh spring, should the old spring break or be of improper tension.
In practice the stand and base are cast in one piece of metal, and the drawer and all other parts, excepting the bottom board,- K, are also made of metal, so that a strong, durable, and serviceable device is presented.
Iam aware that it is not new to construct a cigar-tip cutter having a drawer, and such I do not broadly claim.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
In a cigar-tip cutter, a hollow stand with openings in its sides, in combination with a plunger having a spring-guide supported by a cross-bar removably connected with the lower end of the stand, leaving passages at its.
