SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 339,741, dated April 13, 1886.

To all whom it may concern.-

Be it known that I, AARON S. CLOUGH, a citizen of the United States, residing at Meredith, in the county of Belknap and State of New Hampshire, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in a Combined Ta ble, Blackboard, and Molding-Board for Making Relief-Maps; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description y of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being bad to the accompanying drawings, and to letters and figures of reference mark ed thereon, which form a part of this specification.

My invention consists of an improved combined table, blackboard, and molding-board for making relief-maps of sand, fine grave], or any plastic material, to be used for teach ing geography in schools or illustrating the topography of the country.

My improved combined table, blackboard, and molding-board consists of a square tray, A, of any size desired, with raised sides a a a, apocket or sand-receptacle formed at the rear side or end, I), by covering the top to the width of a few inches and attaching thereto a hinged lid, 0, which fastens to the bottom of the tray A at the point (I. This tray A and pocket I), when constructed of wood, are lined with metal and made watertight. At the front left-hand corner of the tray A is a spigot, 0. This tray A is hung between two standards,

may be placed between the standards B B at a proper distance below the tray A. The back of the tray A is painted or colored black, and when the moldingboard is not used for molding relief-maps, and the sand is dumped into the pocket I), may be turned up and used as a blackboard, asin Fig. II, h k, or as a table, in Fig. II, Z m.

Fig. III is a view of my combined table, blackboard,and molding-board similarly hung to the wall on brackets N, the top of the entire tray A having a lid, 0, like a desk-lid, by means of lowering which it may be used as a table or desk, and by raising the tray A to the position occupied by the open lid 0, in Fig III, it may be used as a blackboard.

IVhen a relief-map, P, is molded in the tray A with sand or other material, alight shower or fine spray of water from a fountain, Q, or other similar device is thrown thereon for the purpose of forming lakes, bays, streams, 8:0.

WVhen it is desired to use the molding-board as a table or a blackboard, as heretofore described, the water is drawn off at the spigot 6 into any kind of a receptacle, the tray unclamped by the wheel 9, and elevated so as to dump the sand or other material into the pocket b, and the lid closed and fastened at the point d.
