CUT-OFF VALVE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 337,739,dated March 9,1886.
Application filed December 17, 1885. Serial No. 185,962. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, HENRY BURTON, of Port Huron, in the county of St. Clair and State of Michigan, have invented new and useful Improvements in Automatic Out-Offs; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had'to the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification. ro This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in automat-ic cutoff valves; and the invention consists in the peculiar construction and application of an oscillating link arranged to be operated through the medium ofthe governor, and in the cornbination of the various parts, all as more fully hereinafter set forth.
Figure l is an elevation of the valve chest, showing the valves in position and connected to the governor. Fig. 2 is a section on the line x x, Fig. l. Fig. 3is a section on the line y y, same iigure. Fig. 4 is a sectionvon the line z z, Fig. 3.
In the accompanying drawings, which forni a part of this specification, A represents the steam-chest, in which are placed the valves B B. These valves are connected together by a link, C, the ends of which are provided with the eccentric slots D, in which blocks E have a sliding movement, such blocks being pivotally secured t-o the valves, as shown.
F is a valve-stein, upon which is rigidly secured a block, G, provided with a pin, H, upon which the link C is fulcrumed or pivoted at its longitudinal center, Fig. 2. By these means the valves are reciprocated simultaneously under the action of the valvestem.
J is a loop formed upon the link C, and is sufficiently large to allow a free play of the valve-stem, that passes through it, in any position the part-s may assume in the operation of the device. This loop is providedl with a pin, K, which engages with a block, L, which has a sliding movement in the cross-head M,
formed upon or secured to the governor-stein N, the lower end of which is stepped in the guide-block O.
In practice, under the action of the governor, the governorstein is raised or lowered 5o vertically, necessarily carrying with it the cross-head M. This, by the connections herein named, causes the link O to turn upon its fulcrum H, advancing or retracting the valves and compelling them to cut off at the desired points.
What I claim as niy invention is- 1. In an automatic cut-off, a link, C, carried by the valve-stem and having eccentric slots engaging with the valves B, and a pivotal con- 6o neet-ion with the governor-rod for oscillating such link under the action of the governor, substantially as set forth.
2. In an automatic cut-off, an oscillating link having eccentric slots engaging with the two sections of a reciprocating valve, said link being carried on a pivot by the valvestem, and suitable connections with the governor for actuating such link under the action of the governor, substantially as described.
3. In an automatic cut-off, the com bination of the valves B, operated by a single valvestem, an oscillating link connecting the two valves and having a pivotal connection with the valve-stem and a pivotal connection with 75 the governor-stem, substantially as set forth.
4. In an automatic cut-off, the combination of the valves B, link C, provided with eccentric slots D, engaging with said valves, pin H, block G, loop J, valve-stem F, pin K, block 8o L, cross-head M, and governor-rod N, when constructed, arranged, and operating substantially in the manner and for the purposes set forth and shown.
