SPECIFICATION forming part of'Letters Patent No. 337,684, dated March 9, 1886.

To aZZ whom it may concern,.-
Be it known that I, WILLIAM HooPnR, of Ticonderoga, in the county of Essex and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Ore-Ooncentra'tors, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming part ofthis specification, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in both the figures.
Figure l is a sectional side elevation of one of my improved ore-concentrators, parts being broken away. Fig. 2 is a sectional plan View of the same, parts being broken away.
The object of this invention is to provide ore-concentrators constructed in such a manner as to deliver the floating values, tailings, middlings, and concentrates into separate receivers, and which shall be reliable in operation and convenient in use.
The invention consists in the construction and combination of various parts of the oreconcentrator, as will be hereinafter fully described, and then pointed out in the claims.
A represents the frame of the machine, or of a building in which the machine is placed, and to which is jonrnaled the upper end of' the vertical shaft B. The lower end of' the vertical shaft B revolves in a step, C, attached to the floor of the building or to the frame of the machine.
Upon the lower part of the vertical shaft B is placed a sleeve, D, with the lower part of which is rigidly connected the inner end of a bar, E.
To lugs attached to the outer end of the bar E is hinged one end of a connecting-bar, F, the other end of which is pivoted to a crankpin secured to the crank-wheel G, so that the bar E will be vibrated by the revolution of the said crank-wheel G. The crank-wheel G is slotted radially to receive the crank-pim so that the said crank-pin can be moved toward or from the center ot' the said crank-wheel to give a less or greater throw to the crank. The crank-wheel G is attached to the inner end of a shaft, H, which revolves in bearingsin posts I, or other supports attached to the floor of 5o the building, or to the frame of' the machine.
To the outer part of the shaft H is attached a cone-pulley, J, to receive a belt, which also passes around a cone-pulley, K, attached to the shaft L. The shaft L revolves in hangers M, attached to the frame A, and is provided with a fast pulley, N, and a loose pulley, O, to receive a driving-belt from any convenient power.
To the flanged upper end of the sleeve D are rigidly attached the inner ends of radial 6o bars I), the outer ends of which are rigidly connected by bars Q.
Upon the middle parts of the radial barsP is placed an annular bar, R,which is connected with the said bars P by set-screws S, so that the said annular bar R can be readily raised or lowered by operating the said set-screwsS, to give a greater or a less inclination to the radial sluices T. The sluices T rest upon and are connected with the bars Q and R, and are 7o flared toward their outer ends, so as to form an annular series or table of sluices, which is vibrated from and by the vibrating bar E.
To the shaft B, above the series of radial bars I),is rigidly secured a collar, U, the lower end of which is flanged, and to it are secured the inner ends of' the radial feed-spouts V, by which the ore and water are conducted to the head ends of' the sluices T, so that the said feed sponts will be carried around by and with 83 the shaft B.
To the flanged upper end of the collar U are rigidly attached the concentric feed-tubs W X, the outer one, W, of which is designed to receive ore and water, and the inner one, 85 X, is designed to receive water. The feedtub V is provided with a discharge-tube, Y, through which the upper ends of the feedspouts V are supplied with ore and water successively. The feed-tub X is provided with 9o a numberof discharge-tubes, Z, through which the upper ends of the feed-spouts V, after the floating values have run of'f, are supplied with water to wash off, first, the tailings, then the :.niddlings, and finally the concentrates. Ore and water from any suitable reservoir are introduced into the feed-tub W through a spout,

To the flanged upper end of. the collar U is rigidly attached the inner end of thfe bar ci, the outer end of which, or a bar or strap attached to the said outer end, is bent downward and inward, and is attached t0 the foot of the annular receiving-trough d. The receivingtrough d is attached tothe outer ends of the radial bars e, the inner ends of which are rigidly attached to a flanged sleeve, f, placed and revolving loosely upon the sleeve D.- and resting on a shoulder of the said sleevel D, so that the receiving-trough d will be carried around byand with the vertical shaft B.l Thef trough d is divided into four sections, g' 7i ij,
