I RECORD FILING CABINET Filed om. 13, 1965 8 2 sheets-sheet FQ. J
//27 lli/24 United States Patent O 3,368,857 RECORD FILING CABINET .lohn R. Harding, Waynesboro, Va., assignor to Acme Visible Records, Inc., Crozet, Va., a corporation of Delaware Filed Oct. 13, 1965, Ser. No. 495,395 3 Claims. (Cl. 312-250) ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A record filing cabinet comprising a spaced pair of end walls, a shelf secured to and between said walls adjacent their lower end portions, an inclined wall extending upwardly from said shelf and secured to and between said walls, a horizontally disposed bar engaged to the inner face of each of said walls adjacent their upper end portions and an upwardly open tray secured to and between said bars.
This invention relates to a record filing cabinet of novel construction.
It is an object of the present invention to provide a mobile record filing cabinet of novel and economical construction wherein the cabinet comprises a spaced pair of end walls, a shelf secured to and between said walls adjacent their lower end portions together with an inclined wall extending upwardly from said shelf secured to and between said side walls providing a modesty shield. The cabinet further comprises an upwardly open tub type tray disposed between said walls adjacent their end portions removably secured thereto in a novel manner whereby similar tubs of varying capacity may be engaged thereto in a quick and convenient manner.
Other objects of the invention relate to details of construction, arrangement of parts and economies thereof, as will be apparent from a consideration of the follow-v ing specification and accompanying drawings, wherein:
FIG. l is a perspective view of a record filing cabinet constructed in accordance with the present invention.
FIG. 2 is a section taken on line 2-2 of FIG. 1-
FIG. 3 is a fragmentary section taken on line 3-3 of FIG. 2.
FIG. 4 is a fragmentary view similar to that of FIG. 2 showing a modied construction.
Referring to the drawings, reference numerals 10, indicate a spaced pair of end walls suitably formed of a single sheet of metal cut and bent to dene integral angular channels, one 11 at the upper edge and a pair 12, 12 at the vertically extending side edges. Secured to the lower edges of the panels 10 and between their angular channels 12, 12 as by welding as at 13 are a pair of channel members 14 opening towards each other, one being shown in the illustrations. These channel members 14 where they enter the channels 12 at the four corners of the cabinet are apertured to receive the shank 15 of the casters 16 to render the cabinet mobile.
Disposed above the base channels 14 is horizontally positioned shelf 17 integral with an upwardly inclined modesty shield 18, components 17 and 18 being formed of a single piece of metal and further provided with ilanges 19 and 20 which are welded to and between the side walls 10 as at 21 and 22, and a downwardly extending flange or channel 34.
The inwardly extending anges 23, 23 on the channels 12 are formed with a pair of apertures through which are extended removable bolts 24, 24 removably retaining opposed transverse bars 25, one being shown in the drawings. To and between these bars 25 is welded as at 26 an upwardly open tub type tray comprising a spaced pair of end walls 27, a base 28, and diverging side walls 29, 29. These bases 28 and walls 29, 29 of the tub type trays are suitably formed of a single piece of sheet metal cut and bent to further dene the flanges 30, 30 which are integral with the inclined side walls 29, 29 and the flange 31 is integral with the bottom wall and to these are secured as by welding, as indicated at 32, opposed end walls 27, only one of which is shown in the drawings.
Although FIG. 3 shows an upwardly open tray secured between bars 25 of a transverse dimension less than that of the panels 10, FIG. 4 shows a tray of greater transverse dimension than that of the side walls 10 illustrating the manner in which trays of different width may be removably engaged to the cabinet by means of the bars 25 and the bolts 24 engaged to the flanges 23 of channels 12.
These upwardly open tub type trays are adapted to hold and le records indicated at 33. Although not shown, a removable upwardly open tub type tray may be disposed on the shelf 17 if desired.
It will thus be seen that I have provided a record tiling cabinet of variable capacity constructed in a novel and economical manner.
Although I have shown and described the preferred embodiment of my invention it will be understood by those skilled in the art that changes may be made in the details thereof without departing from its scope as comprehended by the following claims.
I claim:
1. A record filing cabinet comprising a spaced pair of end walls, a shelf xedly secured to and between said walls adjacent their lower end portions, an inclined wall integral with and extending upwardly from said shelf and xedly secured to and between said walls and acting with said shelf as a structural tie between' said end walls, a horizontally disposed bar removably engaged to the inner face of each of said walls adjacent their upper end portions and an upwardly open tray xedly secured to and between said bars.
2. A record ling cabinet comprising a spaced pair of end walls terminating at their vertical edges in return bent spaced flanges, a horizontally removably' disposed bar engaged to said flanges on each wall adjacent their upper ends, an upwardly open tray lixedly secured to and between said bars, and a horizontally disposed shelf and integral wall inclined thereto xedly secured to and between said pair of walls adjacent their lower ends acting jointly as a structural tie between said end walls.
3. A record ling cabinet comprising a spaced pair of sheet metal end walls terminating at their upper and vertical edges in return bent spaced flanges, a horizontally disposed bar removably engaged to said flanges at each wall adjacent their upper ends, an upwardly open tray in welded engagement to and between said bars, said tray comprising a sheet of metal bent to dene a bottom and outwardly diverging side walls, integral anges extending from said side and bottom walls, end walls in welded engagement with said bottom and side flanges, reinforcing channels secured to and in welded engagement with the anges of said end walls adjacent their lower end portions, and a sheet of metal bent to define a shelf disposed horizontally between said end walls and a contiguous inclined wall and terminal flanges on said shelf and inclined 3 wall welded to and between said end walls and acting as a structural tie between Said Walls, and casters in engagement with said vertically disposed flanges providing mobility for said tray.
