R. W. JONES.
COMBINED BUCKLE AND STRAP LOOP- No. 334,870. Patented Jan. 26, 1886.
ug-i a i llNrrE STATES RICHARD JONES, OF SYRACUSE, NEWV YORK.
PATENT OFFICE.
COMBINED BUCKLE AND STRAP-=LOOP.
$PEQIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 334,870, dated January 26, 1886.
Application filed November 3 0, 1885. Serial No. 184,286. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, RICHARD W. J ONES, a citizen of the United States, residing at Syracuse, in the county of Onondaga, State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Combined Buckles, Strap- Loops, and Hooks, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a perspective view of my improvement applied to a short strap. Fig. 2 is a detached view in perspective of my improvement.
My invention is a combined buckle, straploop, and hook; and it consists in making the plate carrying the buckle and loop, forming the keepers, of a single piece of sheet metal, as hereinafter described.
In the drawings, in which like letters of reference indicate corresponding parts, A is the plate, which is formed of a blank of sheet metal of proper form, which is doubled approximately in the middle, so as to form a bearing at a for the tongue-bar of an ordinary buckle, B. Theplate A is slotted at the center oft-he bearing a,for the tongue of the buckle B to pass through. The under half of the plate A is formed with a semicircular bearing, 1), for the center bar of a three-loop, (J,thus forming a keeper on each side of the plate, when the loop isinserted therein, for the folds of the end of the strap. In the rear of the pointwhere the loop 0 is pivoted the plate A is contracted in width, and both of its ends-one of which is somewhat shorter than the otherare rounded, and the double ends are bent into the form of a hook, as at D, the outer fold of the plate overlying the inner one slightly, as shown. The plate A is formed with holes or apertures c 0 through both of its thicknesses, and by means of which and suitable rivets it is attached to the strap. After the blank is cut out of sheet metal of the proper form, and the bearings for the buckle and loop formed therein, the tongue of the buckle is inserted through the slot in the plate A, the middle bar of the loop 0 is inserted in its bearing 12, and the doubled ends are bent to form the hook D, and by this last operation all of the parts are secured together. The holes are then made for the rivets.
The manner of applying it to a strap is shown" in Fig. 1, and it will be understood that, like other devices of its class, the hook in the bight of the strap is to receive a ring or analogous article, and to prevent its wearing the strap.
The blank can be cut out of sheet metal by means of dies of suitable form, and the beam ings for the buckle and loop formed therein, when by simply doubling the plate, with the buckle and loop in place, and bending or forming the hook on the end, all the parts are secured without riveting, brazing, or soldering.
Myimprovementis very readily and cheaply constructed, and is well adapted for use on various parts of harness, and is very efficient in use;
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by. Letters Patent, is-
1. A strap-loop and protector consisting of a sheet-metal plate doubled upon itself, and with its free ends bent into hooked form at one end, with bearings for a buckle at the doubled end, and an intermediate bearing for 'a keeper, substantially as described.
2. A strap-loop and protector consisting of a sheetmetal plate doubled upon itself and bent into hooked form at one end, with bearings for a buckle at the doubled end, and an intermediate bearing for a keeper, in combination with a buckle and keeper, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I affiX my signature in presence of two witnesses.
