To all whom it may concern.-

Be it.- known that l, Gnonsn F. DYAR, of Ghelmsford, county ot'Middlcse-X, State of Massachusetts, have invented an Improvement in PictureExhibitors, of which the following description, in connection with theaecompanying drawings, is a'specification, like letteis on the drawings representing like parts.

This invention has for its object the construe tion of a picture-holding apparatus or exhibitor wherein the frame of the picture or other object to be retained or supported in desired position is engaged by a pair ofpronged clamps adapted to slide laterally on aback plate, which is provided with screw-threaded orifices engaged by screws supported in the ends of a yoke. The yoke is attached to an interiorlythreaded sleeve working on a screw-rod sup ported in vertical position within the body of the standard, the screw threaded sleeve being provided at its upper end with a slotted sector having a thumb-screw and a rest or cushion, whereby the picture retained in the yoke by the pron ged clamps may be swung to either side or be raised or lowered by the rotation of the sleeve on the screw, and, further, be adjusted at an angle to a vertical plane by a retatory movement on the pivotal screws in the ends of the yoke and be retained in position by the thumlrnut engaging the rest in the slotted sector, substantially as fully set forth in the following description and claims.

The body A of the standard is turned to any suitable size and configuration, and is provided with a central bore to receive a screw-threaded rod, B, of less diameter than said bore, the said screw-rod being worked through the screworifice in the metal plug a, secured by pins "0 in a cavity in the lower end of the body, (see Fig. 4,) when the scrcwrod is secured to the plug, to be firmly retained in vertical position in the bore of the body A by means of screws 0, which pass through the disk-like head I) of bearings 71,

Two or more dowelpins, e, project from the under side of the head I) of the screw-rod and enter orifices in the bottom of the cap which fits the lower end of the body A, and which is provided with screws f entering the legs D, thus securing said legs to the body A.

An ornamental knob, d, is attached to the under side of the cap C by means of a screw, (1', which passes through said knob, cap 0, and head I), and enters a screw-orifice in the rod B. By this construction thescrew-rod is firmly braced and supported in the bore of the body A in such manner that the annular space between the screw-rod and the inner walls of the body A is equally maintained at all sides, to readily permit the interiOrly-threaded sleeve E, which supports the picture-holding yoke and tits the screw-rod, to be moved up or down in the body A when turned on the screiwrod.

The upper end of the body A is provided with a metal collar, 9, over which is fitted a table, G, having a raised edge or rim, 2, for the retention of articles that may be placed on the table, the said collar also being provided with a set-screw, 3, passing iherethrough and through the body A at that point to engage the sleeve E, and thereby lock it in position and prevent its further rotation on the screwrod when desired.

The yokeH is attached to a head formed on the upper part of the sleeve E, and is provided at its ends with lateral extensions or sleevewhich aid in retaining and supporting the headed pivotal screws 1, the latter passing laterally through the bearings and yoke-arms and entering screw-orifices in the bent ends 7; of the back plate, K. The back plate, K, extends from the screw 1 of one arm of the yoke to that of the other arm, as indicated in the drawings, and is provided with a pair of picture holders or clamps, m, adapted to slide on the plate K, one near either end thereof, and provided with teeth or prongs a, to enter the frame of the picture to be retained in position, and with set-screws o, to lock the said clamps at required points on the back plate, whereby the parts are capable of adj ustment to retain pictures of various sizes in the yoke.

The back plate, K, with a secured picture may be rotated or moved on the pivotal screws I in a plane at right angles to the plane of movement of the yoke when the sleeve is retated on its screw-rod, to enable the supported picture to be set or adjusted at any angle desired to catch the proper light to enable one to examine the picture from agiven standpoint. The metal collar 9 (shown enlarged in Fig. 5)has internal proj cctions, r/, which enter a slot in the upper end of the body A, preventing its rotation thereon, and the clampingscrcw 3 passes through one of the said project-ions.

The table G may have connected with it drawers or receptacles for holding pencils or chalk or other small articles which may be used in connection with the blackboard.

of an interiorly screw-threaded sleeve fitting the screw-rod and adapted to be moved on the said rod in the bore of the body, andprovided in its upper end with a yoke having suitable picture-holding devices, substantially as described.

2. The combination of the hollow body provided with a metallic plug havinga screwthreaded orifice with a screw-rod passing through the plug and projecting into the bore of the body, and means for securing the head of the screw-rod to the plug, substantially as described.

3. The combination, with the hollow body provided with the metallic plug, having a screw-threaded orifice, of a screw-rod project ing through the orifice in the plug and into the hollow body and provided with a disk-like head having dowel-pins, as specified, means for securing the head of the screw to theplug, and the cap secured to the body and having sockets in its bottom to receive the dowel-pins, substantially as described.

4. The combination, with a yoke provided with lateral. extensions or bearings and the headed screws fitting said bearings, of the back plate having the bent ends provided with screw-orifices, and the clamps having the set-screws and holdingprongs, substantially as and for the purpose described.

The combination, with a standard sup ported on legs and provided with a yoke having pivotal picture-holding supports, of a slotted sector provided with a thumb-screw and a rest, substantially as described.

6. The combination, with a body, A, supported on legs and having a central bore and a screw-rod of less diameter than the bore of the body, and screw-rod secured at one end to the body and projecting in the bore thereof, of an interiorly-screw-threaded sleeve engaging the screw-rod and provided with a yoke with its ends provided with pivotal pictureholding means, substantially as set forth.

7. The combination, with a body, A, supported on legs and having a central bore and a screw-rod of less diameter than the bore of the body, and screw-rod secured at one end to the body and projecting in the bore thereof, of an interiorlyscrew-threaded sleeve engaging the screw-rod and provided with a yoke with its ends provided with pivotal pictureholding means, and the table having the rim' 2, substantially as described.
