Description
J. KOPAL EAR CLIP WITH DETACHABLE JAW Get. 5, 1965 Filed July 29, 1963 INVENTOR. 72*05/01/ XO a/ BY MM EAR CLIP WITH DETACHA'BLE JAW Jaroslav Kopal, .lablonec, nad Nisou, Czechoslovakia, assignor to Bizuterie, narodni podnik, Jablonec, nad Nisou, Czechoslovakia Filed July 29, 1963, Ser. No. 298,150 Claims priority, application Czechoslovakia, Aug. 3, 1962, 4,612/62 Claims. (Cl. 63-14) This invention relates to a clip for earrings of the type which comprises a stable part carrying the decorative part of the clip and a second or resilient part pivoted to the stable part and adapted to grip the lobe of the ear between the back of the decorative part and the resilient part.
Presently used ear clips of this kind have holes in lateral walls of the stable part which holes studs of the resilient part engage, and when assembling both parts these lateral Walls have to be bent manually by means of pliers so as to allow the studs to enter said holes. This work is tedious and an uncorrect bending of these lateral walls has a bad influence upon the operation of the clip. An excessive bending impairs the resiliency of the resilient part as undue friction is caused between both parts, and insufiicient bending can cause the resilient part to fall out.
It is an object of this invention to overcome this drawback and the essential feature of this invent-ion is that bearing holes for the studs of the resilient part are provided in the'lateral walls of the stable part, with each bearing hole merging into a slot and each slot terminating in a cutaway in the connecting wall of these lateral walls, allowing the inserting of the studs of the resilient part without any further operation.
The invention is shown by way of example in the accompanying drawing, wherein FIG. 1 is an elevation of the assembled ear clip in open position, FIG. 2 is a top view, FIG. 3 is an elevation of the resilient part, FIG. 4 is a top view, and FIG. 5 is an elevation of the stable part of the ear clip.
The stable part comprises a front or mounting wall 6 to which the decoration part is soldered or fixed in any known manner. This front wall extends into two lateral walls 7 and 8 linked by the connecting wall 9.
The resilient part or jaw has approximately the shape of a stirrup with two studs 2 and a central resilient extension 1. The part 11 of this resilient part which contacts the lobe of the ear is somewhat embossed.
In the lateral walls 7, 8, openings are provided which form bearing holes 3 for the studs 2 of the resilient part, which bearing holes continue as slots and terminate in cutouts 4 in the connecting wall 9 of both lateral walls 7, 8. A projection 5 is provided on the connecting wall 9 close to the front wall 6. The connecting wall 9 extends into a rest 10 for the resilient extension 1 of the resilient part.
Both parts of the ear clip are advantageously pressed articles and are assembled by inserting the studs 2 into the cutouts 4 in the connecting wall 9, moving the studs up to the bearing holes, and simultaneously snapping the extremity of the resilient extension 1 behind the projection 5, as shown in FIG. 1. When fixing the ear clips to the ear, the resilient part is swung through about 90 nited tates atent RICHARD C. PINKHAM, Primary Examiner.
ice
so that the lobe of the ear is squeezed between the decorative part fixed to the front wall 6 and the embossment 11 of the resilient part.
No other operations are required in the course of the assembly of the ear clip of the invention.
I claim:
1. A clip for earrings, comprising (a) a jaw including (1) a longitudinal plate provided with two slits extending from points intermediate the ends of said plate to one end thereof,
(2) a spring tongue centrally disposed between said slits, said spring tongue having a free end and a portion at said free end, which is otfset with respect to the general plane of said plate,
(3) two side portions outside of said slits, each of said side portions having a free end, and
(4) two studs extending from the free ends of said side portions inwardly,
(b) a mounting member including (1) a mounting wall adapted to be fastened to an ornamental part of an earring,
(2) two lateral walls spacedly extending at right angles to said mounting wall,
(3) a wall extending at right angles to, and connecting, said lateral walls, and
(4) means for assembling and supporting said jaw for pivotal movements thereof between an operative and nonoperative position, said means including two spaced cutaways in said connecting wall, and a slot and a bearing hole in each of said lateral walls, each of said cutaways merging in one of said two slots, each slot having an upward inclination and terminating in one of said bearing holes, said cutaways and slots being located to admit and pass said studs, each of said studs being supported in one of said bearing holes, with said spring tongue biased against said mounting member.
2. In the clip according to claim 1, a projection on said connecting wall, adapted to abut against said free end of said spring tongue when in said nonoperative position.
3. In the clip according to claim 1, said bearing holes being wider than the transition between said bearing holes and said slots, when measured in the direction of the operative position of said jaw.
4. In the clip according to claim 1, said slits being wider near said plate one end and gradually diminishing in width toward said points intermediate said plate ends.
5. In the clip according to claim 4, each of said side portions gradually diminishing in width toward said free end thereof.
