CLOSING APPARATUS FOR BOTTLES, &0. No. 320,715. PatentedJuneZB, 1885.
TJGJ. jjaa.
UNITED STATES I PATENT OFFICE;
HERMANN srnmenn, or DANTZIC, PRUSSIA, GERMANY.
CLOSING APPARATUS FOR BOTTLES, 800.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 320,715, dated June 23, 1885.
Application filed November 13, 1884.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, HERMANN SPRIEGEL, a subject of the Emperor of Germany, and a resident of Dantzic, in the Kingdom of Prussia, Germany, have invented certain Improvements in Bottle-Stoppers, of which the following is a specification.
The object of my invention is to construct a bottle-stopper which shall be capable of being easily and quickly applied, and yet securely retained in place after it has been applied.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a vertical section of my improvement. Fig. 2 is a sectional plan on the line 1 2, and Fig. 3 is a side view of a bottle-neck without the stopper.
A is the bottle, which near the top is provided with the usual shoulder, a, and around the neck below the shoulder is attached a ring, 13, with square eyes b at diametricallyopposite points.
The stopper D, which consists of a disk. d, carrying a rubber face, is combined with a sheet-metal cylinder, E, containing a spiral spring, F. One end of the spiral spring I prefer to secure to the closed top of the cyl-- inder E, while the other and lower end is secured to the disk which carries the stopper D.
Across the top of the cylinder E is secured a spring-clip, G, the opposite legs of which extend some little distance below the cylinder E, and have catches g of such a character that when the stopper is placed on the neck of the bottle these catches y can be passed through the eyes I) of the ring B and engage with the (No model.)
under side of these eyes to retain the parts in pressing on the stopper D to make a tight closure at the neck of the bottle.
In order to insure the retention of the stopper in place, I combine with the abovedescribed devices a rubber or other suitable ring, H, around the 'neck of the bottle below the ring B, and this ring H, when the stopper and its retaining-clip have been pressed into position and the catches 9 have engaged with the eyes of the ring B, is pushed up behind the catches g, to prevent their accidental withdrawal. On the other hand, when it is desired to remove the stopper, the ring H is pressed downward, so as to leave the catches 9 free to be'disengaged.
In order to prevent the liquid in the bottle from acquiring a flavor of india-rubber from the stopper of the bottle, I prefer to line the face of the latter with a disk of parchment paper, K.
I claim as my invention- LOUIS RUDOLF, A. ScrrY'rH.
