J. R. PARK.
REFLECTOR.
No. 320,494. Patented June 23, 1885.
WITNESSES ATTORNEY IINTTED STATES PATENT Orrrcit JAMES R. PARK, OF LA VERGNE, TENNESSEE.
REFLECTOR.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 320,494, dated June 23,1885.
Application filed June 4, 1884.
To all whom, it may concern.-
Be it known that I, J. R. PARK, of La Vergne, in the county of Rutherford and State of Tennessee, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Reflectors; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear,
and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to an improvement in reflectors, the object of the same being to provide a reflector which may be conveniently attached to a lamp of any size.
A further object is to provide means where by the relative positions of the reflector and the light may be regulated as desired.
A further object is to provide a device of this character which shall be simple and economical in construction and durable and efficient in use; and with these ends in view my invention consists in certain details of construction and combinations of parts, as will be more fully described, and pointed out in the claims.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a view in perspective of my improvement, and Fig. 2 is a verticallo'ngitudinal sectional view of the same.
A represents a yoke or collar, preferably made of springband metal, adapted to encircle the neck of a lamp or a lamp-standard, and provided with an elongated slot, B, in its overlapping end, through which passes a screw-threaded stud, O, which is secured to the underlapping end of the collar, which stud is adapted to receive a thumb-nut, D, the lower end of which impinges against the overlapping section and thereby holds the collar in any desired adjustment. The rear portion of the collar is provided with the metallic strip E, which is suitably secured thereto, and between which and the collar fits the bent end F of the sectional supporting-arm G.
45 The support G is provided with a longitudinal closed slot, H, and the sides thereof are provided with the flanges I. These flanges may be riveted to the said arm or formed integral therewith, and serve as guides 5 or supports to the arm-section J.
The section J of the jointed arm is pro- (N0 model.)
vided with a threaded perforation, K, at its inner end, through which and the slot H passes the thumbnut L, which is provided with a washer or suitable flange adapted to bear against the flanges I of the arm G and hold the arm-section J in any desired longitudinal adjustment.
The outer end of the section J is provided with the bent end M, as shown, forming a 6 socket adapted to fit between the sockets N of the vertical section 0 of the jointed arm. The thumb-bolt P passes through the said sockets, and is screw-threaded on its end, and provided with a nut, Q, by means of which 6 the sockets are brought close together and held against movement, thus enabling the section 0 to be placed and clamped in any desired angular adjustment. The upper end of the vertical arm 0 passes through a sleeve or collar, R, attached to the back of the reflectorplate S in any suitable manner.
The sleeve or collar is suitably provided in its outer face with the screw threaded perforation T, adapted to receive a thumb-screw, U, which fits therein, and is adapted to impinge against the vertical arm-section O, and by the operation of which the reflector-plate S may be elevated and lowered on the section 0, as desired.
Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. In a reflector, the combination, with a support adapted to be removably secured to 85 a lamp, of a removable jointed arm adjustably secured to said support and a reflector secured to said jointed arm, substantially as set forth.
2. In a reflector, the combination, with a jointed arm havinga reflector-plate secured to one section, of a horizontal support provided with guides adapted to receive the other section of said arm in horizontal adjustment, sub stantially as set forth.
- 3. In a reflector, the combination, with a reflector-plate secured to one sect-ion of a jointed arm, the lower section of which arm is provided with a screw-threaded perforation, of a slotted horizontal support and a thumbscrew adapted to pass through said slotted support and engage said perforation, thereby ICO holding the lower sections of the arm in any a jointed arm detachably secured to the colrequired horizontal adjustment, substantially lar and capable of angularand horizontal adas set forth. justrnent, substantially asset forth.
4. A reflector-support consisting of a In testimony whereof I have signed this spring-metal collar one end of which is pro specification in the presence of two subscrib- I5 vided with an elongated closed slot and the ing witnesses. other end having a screw-threaded stud secured thereto and passing through said slot, Witnesses:
a nut adapted to fit said stud, whereby the w E. W. OWEN, 1o collar is locked in the desired adjustment, and C. \V. PATTERSON.
