To all whom it may concern.-

Be it known that I, Hanan-mos ZUYDHOEK, of Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Toys, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.

Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.

The object of this invention is to provide a toy constructed in such a manner that it will operate as a sisser while being used as a buzz, and which can be used without any danger of setting the house or the operator on fire.

The invention relates to a toy constructed with a plate having holes to receive the operating-strings or a pivot, and with slots to receive wiregauze for inclosing the combustible compound, and provided with a loose wire to enlarge the circle of fire and keep the plates at the center of the operating-string. The plate is also provided with tubes to receive the end of the fuse, and with a cap to cover the said tubes. The loose wire is kept from moving along the strands of the string by eyelets placed upon the said string. The operating string is provided with an eyesorew at one side of the plates to connect the string to a support, and with a handle at the other side of the said plate for convenience in holding and operating the said string. provided with one or more wire hooks and one or more rings,placed upon the said hooks for holding the fire in place, as will be hereinafter fully described and claimed.

A represents a circular plate of sheet metal or other suitable material. The plate A can be made of any convenient size, and through it,upon the opposite sides of and equally distant from its center, are formed two holes, B, to receive the string 0. The string 0 upon one side of the plate A passes through the eye formed in the end of a short rod, D, which has a cross-head upon its other end, to forma venient handle when using the toy. passes through the eye of an eye-screw, E, which can be screwed into a wall, post, or other support when the toy is to be used, so that the said toy while being used cannot discharge fire into the face of the operator. as it wouldif both parts of the cord 0 were held by the hands of the operator. In the center of the plate A is formed a hole, F, to receive a pivoting-pin when the toy is to be used as a fire-wheel.

In the plate A are formed one, two, or more longitudinal slots, G, which may be radial, tangential, or inclined, as may be desired, to receive wire-gauze H, to cover the fire com pound I and adapt the toy. to be safely used in a house or near inflammable materials. The wire-gauze will give a different color to the fire from what it would have if the said wire-gauze were not used.

.Vith the fire compound I is connected a fuse, J, which may be of any desirable length, and which, while burning and while the toy is in motion, forms a ring of fire.

In the outer part of the plate A are formed one or more holes, in which are secured short tubes K, into or through which the end of the fuse to be ignited can be passed.

A cap, L, can be placed over the tube K, containing the ignited end of the fuse, to cover and protect the said end.

\Vhen the toy is to be used, the cap L can be removed and placed upon an empty tube, K.

The various fire compounds I attached to the plate A can be all connected by the fuse J, so that they will burn successively and with one ignition of the fuse.

M is a loose wire, which is passed through the strings C upon the opposite sides of and close to the plate A, to keep the said plate upon the central part of the said strings. The wire lWI can be extended beyond the edge of the plate A, and the fuse J wound around it, as shown in Figs. 1 and 2, to enlarge the circle of light when the said fuse has been ignited and the toy is being used.

Upon the string 0, at the opposite sides of the plate A and at the outer sides of the wire M, are placed eyelets N, to prevent the said wires from slipping along the strands of the string 0, and thus allowing the plate A to get out of the center of the said string.

The parts of the fuse J that pass along the side of the plate A are held in place by wire hooks O,swi veled to the said plate,and through which the said fuse is passed; or the fuse J can be passed through rings I, placed upon the hooks O. r

Having thus fully described my invention, I claim as newand desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1. A toy constructed substantially as herein shown and described, and consisting of the plate A, having holes B and slots G, the string 0, and the wire-gauze cases H, substantially as herein shown and described.

2. In a toy, the plate A, made substantially as herein shown and described, having holes B F and slots G, to adapt the said-plate to receive an operating-string or a pivot, and wiregauze cases for the fire compound, as set forth.

3. In a toy, the combination, with the plate A and string 0, of a combustible compound, I, and a fuse, J, substantially as herein shown and described, whereby the said compound can be burned while the toy is being operated, as set forth.

4. In a toy, the combination, with the string 0 and the plate A, having slots G, of the wiregauze cases H, substantially as herein shown and described, whereby the fire will be kept from flying around and a different color can be given to the fire, as set forth.

5. In a toy, the combination, with the plate A and the string G, of the loose wire M, substantially as herein shown and described, whereby the circle of fire can be enlarged and the said plate kept at the center of the said string, as set forth.

6. In a toy, the combination, with the plate A, the string 0, and the loose wires M, of the eyelets N, substantially as herein shown and described, whereby the loose wire is kept from slipping along the strands of the said string, as set forth.
