INVENTOR g MHRC PHILIPFO V Y1 m m W,
United States Patent Office 3,286,879 Patented Nov. 22, 1966 3,286,879 DEVICE FOR THE PRESENTATION OF STOCKINGS AND SIIVIILAR HOSIERY ARTICLES Marc Philippon, Troyes, Aube, France, assignor to Etablissements Andi- Gillier, Troyes, Aube, France Filed Jan. 22, 1964, Ser. No. 339,511 Claims priority, application France, May 10, 1963, 934,409; Nov. 29. 1963, 955,517 7 Claims. (31. 221-36) This invention relates to a device for thepresentation of stockings and similar hosiery articles, such as half stockings, socks or ankle-socks, which device can be used not only by the vendor for the preparation of the articles but also by the user for keeping the said articles, which nevertheless be may use according to his needs.
The device for the presentation of stockings and similar hosiery articles according to the invention is characterised in that it is constituted by a box having a withdrawal opening through which each article can be drawn in succession, the articles being suitably arranged in order in the said 'box and provided with a grasping tab having two lateral notches on opposite edges engaging two edges of a rectangular slot formed on one edge of the opening.
In one form of embodiment the opening is covered with a flap which is connected to the box 'by a tear line which is broken at the moment of utilisation so that the said flap maybe raised thus uncovering th opening.
The invention will be better understood on reading of the following description and on examination of the accompanying drawings which show two examples of embodiment of the invention, and wherein:
FIG. 1 represents in perspective, and closed, a first form of embodiment of a device for the presentation of stockings according to the invention,
FIG. 2 is a view similar to that in FIG. 1, showing the device opened for the extraction of a stocking,
FIG. 3 is a section on a larger scale along the line IIIIII in FIG. 2,
FIG. 4 is a partial section along the line IV-IV in FIG. 3,
FIG. 5 is a partial profile view observed in the direction of the arrow V in FIG. 3,
FIG. 6 is a view similar to FIG. 2, showing a stocking in the cours of extraction,
FIG. 7 represents in perspective, again in the closed position, a second form of embodiment of a device for the presentation of stockings according to the invention,
FIG. 8 is a view similar to FIG. 7 showing the device opened,
FIG. 9 is a section on a larger scale along the line IX-IX in FIG. 8,
FIG. 10 is a partial section along th line X-X in FIG. 9,
FIG. 11 is a partial profile view observed in the direction of the arrow XI in FIG. 9, and
FIG. 12 is a perspective view similar to FIG. 8, showing a stocking in the course of extraction.
In the drawings, the device as represented in FIGURE 1 is constituted by a parallelepipedic box 1 of generally fiat shape, for example of carboard, closed on its six faces. One of its lateral walls is formed by two thicknesses, namely an external fold 2 (FIGURE 3) and an internal fold 3. The internal fold 3 possesses a slot 5 (see also FIGURES 2 and 5) forming th slot for Withdrawal or distribution of the stockings. Towards the middle of the length of this slot there is formed a further slot 6 descending as far as the bottom of the box.
The external fold 2 also :has a large slot 7 of width at least as great as that of the slot 5 formed in the internal fold 3, and a slot 8 descending also as far as the bottom of the box, the width of which is a little larger than that of slot 6 formed in the internal fold 3.
On each stocking, such as 10, preferably on the toe thereof, there is secured a tab 11 constituted for example by a small piece of folded paper strip, the two ends of which are lightly stuck flat on the two faces of the toe of the stocking. This tab possesses two notches 12, 13cmgaged over the two corresponding lips of slot 6 of the internal fold 3 of the box.
The stockings are folded in concertina fashion one upon the other in the box and the tabs are stacked one upon the other and held in place by their notches engaged over the edges of the slot 6.
It is in order to permit passage of the tabs 11 that the slot 8 in the external fold 2 is wider than the slot 6 in the internal fold 3.
The slot 7 is not completely cut out and the box in the new state possesses on the one hand two cut lines indicated at 13 in FIG. 1 and on the other only commencements of breakage such as 14 on the remainder of the said slot.
Before complete opening of this slot by the user, the corresponding part of the lateral wall of the box thus forms a flap 16 which moreover is terminated by a tongue 17 folded flat on the stack of tabs 11 for extraction of the stockings, the said tongue being formed by the material removed from the external fold 2 of the box in order to form the slot 8.
.When the presentation device is new, the flap 16 is contiguous with the wall of the box formed by the external fold 2, as represented in FIGURE 1 and indicated in dot-.and-dash lines in FIGURE 3.
When the user desires to withdraw a stocking from the box, he commences by exerting a pull upon the tongue 17 in the direction of the arrow F (FIGURE 1) in order to open the flap 16 by reason of the presence of the breakage commencements or slits 14. The gap is thus raised as represented in FIGURES 2 to 5. Then it is easily possible to grasp the tab 11 which is situated uppermost, raise it so that its notches 12, 13 slide along the lips of the slot 6 of the internal fold 3, until the said tab reaches the distribution slot 5. At this moment it is then sufiicient to pull the tab and at the same time the stocking is drawn by its toe through the distribution slot 5.
Thus it will be possible to remove each stocking in succession from the box 'by grasping the corresponding tab.
In FIGURES 7 to 12 another form of embodiment is represented which differs from that according to FIG- URES 1 to 6 in that the wall 20 of the box, which possesses the distribution slot, is not formed 'by two folds but comprises only one single thickness. Under these circumstances the notches 12, 13 of each tab 11 are engaged over the two lips of a slot 21 itself formed in a slot 22 cut in the wall 20 of the box to form the distribution slot for the stockings. In this form of embodiment the fi-ap 2 possesses a slightly smaller height than that of the flap in the form of embodiment according to FIGURES 1 to 6. In fact the slot 21 must be sufliciently deep so that the tabs are in no danger of escaping through the distribution slot when the flap is raised.
The tongue 26 for opening the flap comprises for this purpose a first part 26a which, when the device is in the new state, is situated in the plane of the said flap and descends to the upper level of the stack of tabs 11, and a second part 26b applied flat upon the said stack. In order that a substantial length may thus be given to the said tongue for opening the flap, in the present form of embodiment the slot 21 has been prolonged over a certain length indicated at 21a in FIGURE 9, beneath the bottom of the box.
This device is utilised in the same manner as that described with reference to FIGURES 1 to 6, that is to say one commences by exerting a pull upon the tongue 26 in the direction of the arrow F in order to open the flap 25 (FIGURE 7) which possesses the same commencements of breakage, and it is raised as indicated in FIGURE 8. This operation has freed the tabs 11 which can be withdrawn one by one, with the corresponding stocking, through the distribution slot 22.
At least one of the walls of the box possesses a window 23 provided with a transparent foil 24 permitting of seeing the colour shade of the stockings.
The invention is not of course limited to th forms of embodiment as described and represented, numerous modifications can be efiected therein without thereby departing from the scope of the invention.
Thus for example it would be possible to provide a hinged flap cut at the time of manufacture, so that it is no longer. necessary to breakparts thereof provided with breakage commencements, before it can be raised in order to uncover the distribution slot. Then it would perhaps be possible to omit the tongue of the said flap, which would rest against the stack of tabs for extraction of the articles.
