PANTALOON'S. No. 328,384. Patented Oct. 13, 1885.

NITED STATES PATENT Ormea.
CHARLES B. CONES, OF INDIANAPOLIS, INDIANA, ASSIGNOR TO C. B. CONES7 SON & CO., OF SAME PLACE.
PANTALOONS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 328,384, dated October 1.3, 1885. Application filed August 2l, 1882. Serial No. 69,892. (No model.)
T 0 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLEs B. CoNEs, of the city of Indianapolis, county of Marion,ar1d State of Indiana, ham invented certain new and useful Improvements in Pantaloons, Overalls, and Drawers, of which the following is a specification.
The object of my said invention is to strengthen the opening which extends down from the waistband on pantaloons and overalls so that the saine shall not be liable to rip or tear when the strap is unbuckled, asis the case in the common construction. This object is accomplished by extending around along the sides of said opening from one portion of the waistband to the other a stout binding, in the manner hereinafter more particularly specified.
Referring to the accompanying drawings, which are made a part hereof, and on which similar letters of reference indicate similar parts, Figure 1 is a rear elevation of a pair of pantaloons embodying my said improvements; Fig. 2, a detail View, on an enlarged scale, illustrating the invention more clearly; Fig. 3, a detail sectional view, on a still further enlarged scale, on the dotted line z z, and Fig. 4 a similar sectional view on the dotted line yy.
In said drawings, the portions marked A represent the pantaloons or overalls; B, the waistband thereto, C, the binding employed when the manufacture is in accordance with my invention, and D the back-straps.
The several parts A, B, and D are not necessarily dissimilar to the similar parts ordinarily employed, except that it is preferred to eut the opening to which the binding C is applied slightly oval at its lower end instead of running it to a sharp point, as is usual.
The binding C is a piece of stout fabric folded over the edge of the opening in the rear of the pantaloons, as shown, and securely stitched thereto, and also to the ends of the waistband B. This, while permitting the pantaloons-Waist to be spread in the ordinary manner, entirely secures the back seam from ripping, which, especially in overalls, is very liable to occur, and iS a source of great annoyance. This binding C is preferably made of a piece of the same material as that from which the garment is formed, and folded up to form ahem on each side, asshown most clearly in Figs. 3 and 4. The said binding may thus be secured on both sides, when desired, and both edges hemmed by a single row of stitchlng.
The garments when so made are very strong, and especially desirable for tlieless expensive class of pantaloons or overalls worn by laborers.
Having thus fully described my said invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
In a pair of pantaloons or like garments having an opening ending in the back seam, the stay-binding C, formed of a single piece of fabric doubled to embrace the edge of the material and face the same upon both sides, the edges doubled in to form a double hem or hem upon each side, and secured by stitching, substantially as set forth.
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal, at Indianapolis, Indiana, this 19th day of August, A. D. 1882.
CHARLES B. CONES. [L s] In presence 01"- C. BRADFORD, E. WrBRADFoRD.
