(ci. 52-586) This invention relates to a prefabricated building section.
In accordance with the present invention, there is provided a prefabricated building section, which includes at least two metal supporting beams between which is located a wall portion, with a coating layer being provided on one or both sides of said wall portion. In this way, walls may easily be produced in a completely, or substantially completely, finished state.
For a better understanding of the invention and to show how the lsame may be readily carried into effect, reference will now be made by way of example to the accompanying drawings, in which:
FIGURE 1 is a sectional plan of a wall of a prefabricated building section in accordance with the invention,
FIGURE 2 is a sectional plan similar to FIGURE l, but showing an internal wall portion,
FIGURE 3 is similar to FIGURE 1, but shows a modiiication, and
FIGURE 4 is similar to FIGURE 2, but shows a modilication like that of FIGURE 3.
Prefabricated sections, which the invention is part of, are assembled into a building structure. Each section has a skeleton including two parallel horizontal frameworks which lie one above the other. Between the parallel frameworks there are erected vertical supports 2, 3, 4 and 5, in the form of tubular beams.
FIGURE l is a sectional plan of part of a side wall of the building, this side wall consisting of wall portions 6. FIGURE 1 thus shows parts of the wall portions 6 of the sections D and E. Each wall portion 6 is arranged between the vertical supporting beams 2 and 3 of a section. The beams 2 and 3 have plates 7 xed thereto on the sides thereof remote from each other, the plates 7 extending longitudinally of the beams. Each plate is bent over at its edges to form U-shaped channels 9, seen in cross-section, the apex 8 of each U-shaped part 9 being substantially level with the central part 10 of the plate. The parts 8 and 10 are -spaced apart by a portion 11 which is substantially parallel to the part 10. The wall portion 6 between the vertical beams is composed mainly of a light porous material 12, for example foam concrete. The material is afxed to the beams 2 and 3 preferably by an anhydrous adhesive, for example a synthetic resin. On one side of the wall portion thus formed there is a coating 13, formed by a sheet of hard paper. This hard paper sheet is arranged with its vertical edges in the U-shaped channels 9 of the plates 7 secured t-o the vertical beams. Before the plate 7 is positioned during the prefabrication of the section, the wall portion 6 is scoured or polished or both so that the hard paper sheet properly contacts the wall portion. The hard paper sheet is stuck to the wall portion by an anhydrous adhesive. Thus the sheet is secured not only by the bent-over edges of the plates 7 but also by the adhesive.
Longitudinal fastening members 14 are fixed to the plate 7 associated With the vertical supporting beam 3. The fastening members 14 .are arranged to co-operate with fastening means for securing a support 1S, associated with the outside wall of the building to the vertical beam 3.
r'ice It is to be understood that the support members 15 function to support outside wall panels which are not shown in detail since they are not directly relevant to the invention disclosed herein. The fastening members 14 are fixed to the central portion 10 of the plate 7. The fastening means for the support 15 comprise a bolt 16 passing through an -opening 17 in the support 15 and having a screwthreaded end 18 for co-operation with a nut 19. The end 18 is passed through a plate 20, which is accommodated in a recess 21 in the support 15. The head 22 of the bolt 16 lits in the guide afforded by the fastening members 14. In order to prevent the plate 20 from being drawn into the opening 17 when the nut 19 is tightened, the plate is provided with ridges 23, so that bending thereof is avoided. It will be appreciated that a plurality of bolts 16, etc., are provided spaced along the support 15. After the bolts 16 for fastening the support 15 have been tightened the recess 21 accommodating the plates 20 is closed by means of a lath 24. Grooves 25 are formed in the support 15 on either side of the openings 17 for the bolts, the grooves accommodating the U-shaped parts 9 of the plate 7 attached to the beam.
A layer of insulating material 26 is provided on the outer side of the wall of a section associated with an outside Wall of the building. This layer extends from the support 15 to the opposite beam 2 and is secured to the material 12 by anhydrous adhesive. A beam 27 is disposed between the U-shaped channel 9 of the plate 7 secured to the beam 2 and the layer of insulating material 26, the beam 27 being secured to the beam 2 by screws 28. A corrugated facing sheet 29 of polyester material is applied to the layer of insulating material 26. This sheet is secured at one edge to the support 15 associated with the facade by a lath 30, and at the other edge it is disposed on the beam 27.
FIGURE 1 also shows a part of the wall of a second section E adjacent the above-described section D, said wall being associated with the side of the building joining the wall just described. The parts of the wall -of the section E which correspond to the parts of the wall of the section D, are designated by the same reference numerals. In the space between the plates 7 of the beams 2 and 3 of adjoining Wall portions, which space is formed by the two portions 11, there is arranged a filling piece 31 in the form of a wooden lath. The gap formed between the adjacent beams 27 arranged on the outer side of the Wall, is covered by a covering strip 32, which is secured to the beams 27 by screws 33. Such covering strip extends over the edge portions of the facing sheet 29 and serves t-o secure the same to the wall.
FIGURE 2 is a plan view of parts of inner Walls resting on the beams 1 and joining one another at the location of the beams 4 and 5 which is in the interior part of the building. It is apparent from FIGURE 2 that the walls are constructed in a similar manner to the walls shown in FIGURE 1, and the various parts thereof are therefore designated by the same reference numerals as the lcorresponding parts in FIGURE l. The walls in FIGURE 2 are, however, provided on both sides with coatings 13 formed by sheets of hard paper.
As shown in FIGURE 2, a further inner wall extends perpendicularly from the above-described Wall at the location of the beam 5. This wall is of the same structure as the above-described inner wall, except that the coatings 13 are not supported at their edges by the U- shaped parts of the plates 7.
FIGURES 3 and 4 show walls which are the same as the walls of FIGURES l and 2, respectively, but which are supported by rectangular-section tubular beams. Corresponding parts are therefore denoted by the same reference numerals as in FIGURES l and 2. Three of the four sides are formed from a single metal sheet, namely the three sides 35, 35A and 36. The fourth side 34 is arranged between the two parallel sides 35 and 36 and is formed by a plate 37, the edges 38 of which are bent over at right angles. The edges 38 are welded to the sides 35 and 36. 'The edges 39 of the sides 36 and 35 are bent over to form U-shaped ychannels extending beyond the plate 37. These U-shaped channels serve as supports for the coatings 13 and are located on those sides of the supporting beams which are remote from each other. The fastening members 14 in this construction are arranged at the center of the plate 37 in the space between the U-shaped channels aiTorded by the edges 39. With this structure, a filling piece 40 is housed in the space between adjacent plates 37 and between the U- shaped portions of the adjacent supporting beams. The filling pie-ce 40 is in the form of a vertical beam.
The structure described above permits of obtaining in a simple and ready manner a completely finished wall. By using anhydrous adhesives, the walls need not be dried after their prefabrication, so that they are directly ready for use.
Although in the foregoing description reference is made to walls of box-shaped sections, it will be apparent that the same structure may also be employed to construct single wall portions.
What we claim is:
1. In a prefabricated building, a prefabricated wall panel comprising a framework of metal beams including a pair of vertically disposed supporting metal beams, a wall between said vertically disposed supporting metal beams composed of a cementitious material, said wall aixed to said vertically disposed supporting metal beams and supported at least in part by said vertically disposed supporting metal beams, a further like prefabricated Wall panel with one of its affixed vertically disposed supporting metal beams in close juxtaposed relationship with an aixed vertically disposed supporting metal beam of said first-mentioned prefabricated wall panel, filling means applied between said juxtaposed vertically disposed metal beams, the Walls of said prefabricated wall panels being in a coplanar relationship, said juxtaposed vertically disposed supporting metal beams each having a hollow rectangular cross-sectional configuration and each having two sides in a coplanar-relationship with the sides of said walls, said walls presenting a substantially uninterrupted continuous surfaces with their respective juxtaposed vertically disposed supporting metal beams, and a covering material affixed on and overlaying said substantially uninterrupted continuous surface, said vertically disposed supporting metal beams, being formed by a pair of flanged bars of U-section, the parallel flanges of the first of said U-section bars being substantially longer than the parallel anges of the second of said U-section bars, with said latter flanges being secured within and to said former flanges whereby said flanges enclose a rectangular space and said longer flanges are continuous with the surface of its corresponding wall.
2. A structure in accordance with claim 1, wherein walls are aixed to said vertically disposed supporting metal beams by adhesive.
3. A structure in accordance with claim 2, wherein said adhesive consists of an anhydrous substance.
4. A structure in accordance with claim 1, wherein the juxtaposed edges of said vertically disposed supporting metal beams of said prefabricated wall panels have juxtaposed indented spaces extending vertically along said edges, said filling means substantially filling said spaces whereby movement of said prefabricated wall panels normal to their sides is impeded by said filling means.
5. A structure in accordance with claim 1, wherein said covering material is wall paper.
6. A structure in accordance with claim 1, wherein said cementitious material is foam concrete.

Claims (1)

1. IN A PREFABRICATED BUILDING, A PREFABRICATED WALL PANEL COMPRISING A FRAMEWORK OF METAL BEAMS INCLUDING A PAIR OF VERTICALLY DISPOSED SUPPORTING METAL BEAMS, A WALL BETWEEN SAID VERTICALLY DISPOSED SUPPORTING METAL BEAMS COMPOSED OF A CEMENTITIOUS MATERIAL, SAID WALL AFFIXED TO SAID VERTICALLY DISPOSED SUPPORTING METAL BEAMS AND SUPPORTED AT LEAST IN PART BY SAID VERTICALLY DISPOSED SUPPORTING METAL BEAMS, A FURTHER LIKE PREFABRICATED WALL PANEL WITH ONE OF ITS AFFIXED VERTICALLY DISPOSED SUPPORTING METAL BEAMS IN CLOSE JUXTAPOSED RELATIONSHIP WITH AN AFFIXED VERTICALLY DISPOSED SUPPORTING METAL BEAM OF SAID FIRST-MENTIONED PREFABRICATED WALL PANEL, FILLING MEANS APPLIED BETWEEN SAID JUXTAPOSED VERTICALLY DISPOSED METAL BEAMS, THE WALLS OF SAID PREFABRICATED WALL PANELS BEING IN A COPLANAR RELATIONSHIP, SAID JUXTAPOSED VERTICALLY DISPOSED SUPPORTING METAL BEAMS EACH HAVING A HOLLOW RECTANGULAR CROSS-SECTIONAL CONFIGURATION AND EACH HAVING TWO SIDES IN A COPLANAR RELATIONSHIP WITH THE SIDES OF SAID WALLS, SAID WALLS PRESENTING A SUBSTANTIALLY UNINTERRUPTED CONTINUOUS SURFACES WITH THEIR RESPECTIVE JUXTAPOSED VERTICALLY DISPOSED SUPPORTING METAL BEAMS, AND A COVERING MATERIAL AFFIXED ON AND OVERLYING, SAID SUBSTANTIALLY UNINTERRUPTED CONTINUOUS SURFACE, SAID VERTICALLY DISPSED SUPPORTING METAL BEAMS, BEING FORMED BY A PAIR OF FLANGED BARS OF U-SECTION, THE PARALLEL FLANGES OF THE FIRST OF SAID U-SECTION BARS BEING SUBSTANTIALLY LONGER THAN THE PARALLEL FLANGES OF THE SECOND OF SAID U-SECTION BARS, WITH SAID LATTER FLANGES BEING SECURED WITHIN AND TO SAID FORMER FLANGES WHEREBY SAID FLANGES ENCLOSE A RECTANGULAR SPACE AND SAID LONGER FLANGES ARE CONTINUOUS WITH THE SURFACE OF ITS CORRESPONDING WALL.
