Description

Oct. 4, 1966 F. T. HUDEMA 3,276,498
NOVELTY HAND BAG Filed Oct. 15, 1962 INVENTOR.
FE ED THunEMA @JW United States Patent 3,276,498 NOVELTY HAND BAG Fred T. Hudema, Hotchlriss, Alberta, Canada Filed Oct. 15, 1962, Ser. No. 230,541 1 Claim. (Cl. 150-33) This invention relates to handbags and more particularly to novelty handbags for ladies.
It is an object of the present invention to provide a moon and star handbag that is both novel and decorative in appearance with an external compact suspended to one side that will be used by ladies, teenagers, and as childrens toys.
Another object of the present invention is to provide a novelty moon and star handbag that will sufficiently contain the various articles that are carried by a lady and will have a star shaped compact that is readily accessible upon the exterior of the handbag.
Other objects of the invention are to provide a novelty moon and star handbag bearing the above objects in mind which is of simple construction, has a minimum number of parts, is inexpensive to manufacture and efficient in operation.
For other objects and for a better understanding of the invention, reference may be had to the following detailed description taken in conjunction with the accompanying drawing, in which:
FIGURE 1 is a vertical front view of the present invention shown in elevation;
FIGURE 2 is a top plan view of FIGURE 1; and
FIGURE 3 is a rear view of the present invention shown in elevation.
Referring now more in detail to the drawing, a novel moon and star handbag made in accordance with the present invention is shown to include an elongated slit 12 for receiving various articles and an arcuate handle 14 parallel with and adjacent to slit 12 providing a means for carrying handbag 10. A star shaped compact 16 having a circular mirror 18 fixedly secured within is covered with a star shaped cover 20 which is hingable by a pair of hinges 22 on the star points 24. Compact 16 is fixedly secured to a cord 26 which is secured to handle 14. The compact 16 depends from cord 26 and is free to move. Side 28 of handbag 10 is provided with a moon shaped configurated design 30 with an eye 32 of circular configurated and human features 34. Eye 32 is directly beneath the star compact 16 giving the appea-r ance that the eye 32 is gazing at it. The opposite side 36 of handbag 10 has a moon shaped configurated design 38 having an eye 40 and human features 42 and they are symmetrical to those of side 28.
In operation, handbag 10 is carried by handle 14 in the conventional manner and the lady carrying it inserts her various articles within the slit 12. When she wishes to use the compact 16 she places her fingernail between the cover 20 and the body by one of the star points and pivots open cover 20 which is hingably connected to star points 24 by hinges 22 which will thus expose the circular mirror 18.
It will thus be recognized that the sides 28 and 36 may be colored with various pigmented colors and the compact 16 is readily accessible by being secured externally of handbag 10 by its depending cord 26.
While various changes may be made in the detail construction, it shall be understood that such changes shall be within the spirit and scope of the present invention as defined by the appended claim.
What I claim as new and desire to protect by Letters Patent of the United States is:
A ladys handbag comprising, in combination, a pocket element and a handle element, said pocket element and said handle element being integrally formed and each having its outer periphery lying substantially on the circumference of the same circle; said pocket element being of relatively thin configuration, having flat opposite rear and front walls, said pocket element having an upper edge, said upper edge of said pocket element having a longitudinal slit defining an opening communicating with the inside of said pocket element, said slit being relatively closer toward one side of said pocket element and relatively further away from the other side of said pocket element, said handle element being centrally located on said upper edge, the plane of said slit being outside of and adjacent one side of said handle element.
