UNITED STATES PATENT FEICE.
FRED AURAND AND FREEMAN H. SHERER, OF YOUNGSTOWN, OHIO.
SASl-l-HOLDER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 312,315, dated February 17, 1885.
Application filed July 14, 1884. (No model.)
To all whom, it may concern:
Be it known that we, FRED AURAND and FREEMAN H. SHEREE, citizens of the United States, residing at Youngstown in the county of Mahoning and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Sash- Holders, of which the followingis a specication, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings, in which-- Figure lis a perspective of awindow-holder constructed in accordance with our invention. Fig. 2 is a perspective'view, showing the inside of the back plate thereof. Fig. 3 is a similar perspective view of the front plate. Fig. 4 is a longitudinal horizontal section of the device. Fig. 5 is a similar secton of a modification thereof. Fig. 6 is a perspective of the bolt. Fig. 7 is a perspective view of the eccentric lever.
Like letters refer to like partsin all the nres.
Our invention relates to that class of sashholders which comprise an eccentric cani-lever, a sliding bolt adapted to receive said ec centric cani, and a casing for these elements; and the object of our invention is to provide a casing which shall be inadeotonly two pieces, each being capable of being cast without cores, and of being rigidly united without independent fastening-pieces, and securely imite the sliding bolt and its cani-lever; and the invention consists in details of construction hereinat'ter described, and specifically set forth in the claim.
A represents the back plate. It is preferably provided with asemicircular flange, a, to inclose the ring-shaped inner end, b, of the bolt B, and also two lugs, a', having perforations a2, to receive screws by which the device is to loe attached to a window. It has also a perforation, a3, to receive a screw, (d, that operates as a pivot for the eccentric lever C; but in place of the perfor-ations a3 and screw a* a journal pin or stud, a5, Fig. 5, may be formed integral -with the plate A, to act as a journal for the eccentric lever G. An openinggn, may be left inthe back plate, A, to oil the moving parts before the device is in use. The front plate, D, is recessed at d for the passage ofthe bolt B, and is provided with lugs d', having perforations d, corresponding with the perforations u2 of the back plate, to receive screws by which the device is to be attached to a window. The plate D has also either a perforation, d3, to receive the screw a", or a stud, d5, Fig. 5, to act as ajournal for the eccentric lever C, and-pins di, projecting from ysaid plate D, to enter perforations al in the plate A, and be riveted therein to perinanently unite the plates A and D after t-he bolt and eccentric lever have been placed between them, the whole forming an article of manufacture ready to be applied to the outside of a window, in which article none of the parts can become separate and lost while exposed for sale. The face of the bolt B may be recessed and provided with a rubber cushion, (shown at b2, Fig. 6,) as usual, to prevent any abrasion of the Window-frame by said bolt.
Having now fully described our invention, We claini- In a sash-holder, the combination of the back plate, A, provided with lugs a', perforations al, and stud a, the front plate, D, provided with lugs d, pins dl, and stud d5, and the bolt B, having a ring-shaped inner end, with the eccentric lever O,passing through said bolt, substantially as shown and described.
In testiniony whereof we affix our signatures in presence of two witnesses.
FRED A'UEAND. c FREEMAN H. sHEEEE.
