Description

G. RAMON KNEE REST Dec. 3, 1963 Filed Nov. 24, 1961 j m n I n n m I I m I I I l I n INVENTOR. Gwvo PAM 01d United States Patent 3,112,hf.2 KNEE RET Gino Hanson, 2317 N. Palmer St., Milwaukee, Wis. Filed Nov. 24, 1961, der. No. 154,638 1 Claim. (Cl. i82-23tl) This invention relates to improvements in stilts and more particularly to a novel knee-supporting stilt provided with rearw-ardly extended foot-supporting means.
An object of the invention is to provide a device of the type comprising knee supporting means having rearwardly extending arms including clamp means for the toe of a shoe sole.
Other and further objects of the invention will appear as the description proceeds, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, in which:
FIG. l is a view in perspective from above of a stilt embodying the invention.
FIG. 2 is a vertical sectional view taken on line 22 of PEG. 1.
FIG. 3 is a fragmentary side view in elevation showing the shoe sole engaging means.
Referring more particularly to the drawing, thenumer-al vlid refers to the device generally, comprising a plate lit, having a knee-receiving member 12 provided with an internal pad 13. A pair of straps l4 and 15 are provided to secure the device ill to the leg of a user.
A pair of posts 16 and 17 are disposed adjacent the rear end of the plate ll and have amxed thereto the extension arms 13 and d9 reinforced by the elements 20 and 2d. and the rivets 22. A pair of split sleeves 26 and 24 are adjustable on the arms 13 and i9 by the threaded means 25. Each of the sleeves 23 and 24 terminates at its free end in an outwardly disposed hook element 26. A yoke 27 has downwardly tinned ends 23 and 29 provided with laterally disposed hooks 3%.
An adjustable cleat el ment for engaging a shoe sole has a shank portion 3 1 provided at the base thereof with the jaws 32 and 33 which grip the yoke 27, and the sole toe retainer '34. A stationary lateral cleat 35 is provided with prongs 36 and is opposed by the adjustable cleat 3'7 with sole engaging prongs 3 8 and the thumb screw 3%.
in use, the device is secured by means of straps l4 and 1-5 to the leg of the user, and the foot is secured by means 3,llZ,8l2 Patented Dec. 3, 1963 of the cleats and 37 engaging the shoe sole of the user.
When the wearer Wishes to regain his feet, he unhooks the yoke hooks 3 9 from the sleeve books 26, and this operation may be reversed on the resumption of work, as in cement finishing or similar pursuits.
It will be understood that the device is capable of many modifications in structure and design, without departing from the spirit of the invention, within the scope of the appended claim.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed and desired to be secured by Letters Patent of the United States is:
A knee rest comprised of a plate, a vertical marginal rounded top flange on the upper surface thereof, a frontally arcuate socket formation adapted to receive the knee of a user, the socket integral with a fiat plate extending rearwardly thereof, a pad within said socket and continued on said fiat plate, a pair of vertical posts laterally disposed adjacent the rear end of said fiat plate within the flange, a pair of rearwardly extending bars bent about and fixed to said posts, a vertical reinforcing bar spaced I'SEYWfiIdlY of the post and secured to each rearwardly extending bar and the underlying plate, a pair of fiat split sleeves engaged on said rearwardly extending bars with a sliding fit, threaded means for relatively fixing the latter, a pair of horizontal return hooks on the outer ends of the sleeves, a cross-bar with down-turned end portions freely engaged over the ends of said sleeves, hook portions rearwardly and vertically directed integral with said down-turned end portions to engage freely with the horizontal return hooks on the sleeves, a composite vertical bar fixed centrally above said cross-bar, an integral horizontal member at the top of said vertical bar, a fixed internally toothed jaw on one end of said horizontal member to engage the edge of a shoe sole, a movable toothed jaw adjacent the other end of said horizontal member, and threaded means for adjusting said movable toothed jaw to tightly engage the edges of a shoe sole.
