Description

(CI. 242-129) The present invention relates to a device for laying down wire coils provided with barbs, the adjacent convolutions of Iwhich are so interconnected at points distributed over the periphery that the coil can be simultaneously pulled apart.
The novel feature according to the invention is characterised in that of at yleast three such llaying devices one is momentarily xedly mounted above the butt joint of the two devices momentarily disposed beneath it by means of annular anges provided on each device with at least two stud holes for mutual connection.
The individual wire coils .which are withdrawn from the laying tubes disposed in such a spatial arrangement are caused -to become interlocked so effectively that after being -laid they can hardly be disengaged from one another and thus constitute a barbed wire barricade, effective moreover for military purposes. The mutual fixing and support by means of Ithe stud connection in the aforementioned spatial disposition renders it possible to arrange .them on any simple platform of any box car, which maybe of great advantage particularly for military operations and moreover saves costly special equipment needed hitherto.
At least two annular flanges may be connected with inwardly extending bars which cooperate with the annular iiange to form an open tubular framework. One of the inwardly directed bars of each tubular `framework is lo cated at the highest interior point of the annular ilanges. The highest bar of each tubular frame terminates in a check pin :to facilitate removal of the wire from the respective coil. Each such tubular framework thereby simultaneously constitutes a simple and cheap package for each individual wire coil for easy transportation thereof. Package and supporting frame thus form a functional unit for simultaneously laying of several coils of barbed wire.
in order that each tubular frame can be horizontally interconnected above and beneath on the right side and on the left side, the annular flange may conveniently have six stud holes distributed uniformly over its periphery.
The invention will now :be described further by way of example, with reference to the accompanying drawing, in which the single figure is a perspective View of a device for laying wire coils, provided with barbs, in accordance with the invention. There has been shown only one end of each of the three tubular frames, this being for the purpose of avoiding a showing of unnecessary detail and for permitting the view to be as large as possible. It is to be understood that the opposite ends Patented Aug. 10, 1965 of the tubes are identical to the ends shown in the drawing.
Three tubular frames, situated on a platform .l of an automotive vehicle, consist in each case of .two annular ilanges 2, 3 which are interconnected by means of inwardly projecting longitudinal bars 4. Gne of the bars 4 of each open tubular framework is located at the uppermost or highest interior portion of the respective flanges 2 and 3. To vfacilitate removal of the wire from each coil 4the uppermost bar of each tubular framework terminates in a check pin 5. The annular flange has six stud holes 6 uniformly distributed over the periphery, of which three in all are .interconnected by means of studs 7 which may be secured by split pins or screw connections.
A known type barbed -wire strip expediently serves as the barbed wire coil, in which a at metal strip with barbs oppositely directed to one another between recesses form a longitudinal channel in its longitudinal medial plane, in which a carrier wire is embedded, the flat plane of the metal strip lying in the vertical radial plane of the coils which are not drawn apart. Such a coil of 'barbed wire strip may be packed so tightly together in the nondrawn out condition that very long laying lengths can form transportable units.
The easily transported formation of the package constituted by the open tubular frame 2, y3, 4 is readily evident.
We claim:
1. A device for simultaneously laying wire from at least three wire coils provided with barbs comprising: a pair `of spaced annular flange member-s positioned radially outwardly of each wire coi-l, the peripheries of each pair of ange members contacting the peripheries of another pair of iiange members at two points, said annular ange members being joined together .by studs extending .through apertures formed by the annular ilange members at said contacting portions, `and means interconnecting the spaced annular ilanges of each pair and forming support surfaces for the periphery of the wire coils, one of the support means interconnecting the spaced annular flanges terminating in a check pin whereby, lwhen the wire is simultaneously removed from each of the coils, the check pins contact the movement of the wire as it is removed from the coi-ls.
2. The device as set forth in claim 1 wherein said means comprises inwardly extending rods which 'form a tubular frame `for support of the wire coils.
3. The device as set forth in claim 1 wherein the periphery of each spaced annular flange member is provided with six equally spaced stud apertures to facilitate universal employment of the annular flange members within the device.

Claims (1)
1. A DEVICE FOR SIMULTANEOUSLY LAYING WIRE FROM AT LEAST THREE WIRE COILS PROVIDED WITH BARBS COMPRISING: A PAIR OF SPACED ANNULAR FLANGE MEMBERS POSITIONED RADIALLY OUTWARDLY OF EACH WIRE COIL, THE PERIPHERIES OF EACH PAIR OF FLANGE MEMBERS CONTACTING THE PERIPHERIES OF ANOTHER PAIR OF FLANGE MEMBERS AT TWO POINTS, SAID ANNULAR FLANGE MEMBERS BEING JOINED TOGETHER BY STUDS EXTENDING THROUGH APERTURES FORMED BY THE ANNULAR FLANGE MEMBERS AT SAID CONTACTING PORTIONS, AND MEANS INTERCONNECTING THE SPACED ANNULAR FLANGES OF EACH PAIR AND FORMING SUPPORT SURFACES FOR THE PERIPHERY OF THE WIRE COILS, ONE OF THE SUPPORT MEANS INTERCONNECTING THE SPACED ANNULAR FLANGES TERMINATING IN A CHECK PIN WHEREBY, WHEN THE WIRE IS SIMULTANEOUSLY REMOVED FROM EACH OF THE COILS, THE CHECK PINS CONTACT THE MOVEMENT OF THE WIRE AS IT IS REMOVED FROM THE COILS.
