(Cl. 294 74) The present invention relates to a small game hanging is old in the art. The object of this invention is to provide such a device having novel features over the prior art devices; to provide such a device which may be compactly folded and carried in a hunters pocket when not in use; to provide such a device which may quickly and easily be put into service in the field for suspending small game such as rabbits, pheasants, etc., from an elevated support such as the limb of a tree, whereby the hunter may clean the game in a standing position and whereby the carcass is elevated out of reach of the hunters dog which is usually prone to interfere with the cleaning operation; and in general to provide such a device which is simple and rugged in construction, reasonably economical in manufacture and attractive in appearance.

An illustrative embodiment of the invention is shown in the accompanying drawing, wherein:

FIGURE 1 is a perspective view showing the new small game hanging device suspended from the limb of a tree and showing a rabbit suspended by its hind legs from the device;

FIGURE 2 is a view partly in front elevation and partly in central, vertical, longitudinal section of the device; and

FIGURE 3 is a view of a length of thong material and associated washers used in the construction of the device.

Referring now in detail to this drawing, the device generally comprises an elongated tubular body member 10 having a first or medial looped thong 11 extending up wardly therefrom for suspension of the device from an overhead support, and second and third looped

12, 13 depending from the opposite ends of the body member 10 for suspension of the game from the device.

The tubular body member 10 may be of any suitable, rigid material such as metal or plastic. It has a medial opening 14 therein and is provided with apertured plug means at its opposite ends. As here shown, these plug means comprise metal of

15, 16 tightly fitted over the ends of the tubular member 10 and having central apertures 17, 18 therethrough.

11, 12 and 13 are all formed bya single length of thong material which is preferably of leather but not necessarily so. This length of thong material is illustrated in its entirety in FIGURE 3. One end of the thong material is anchored in the body member 10 behind the plug means or cap 15 at one end of the body member. The material then extends outwardly through the central aperture 17 in said plug means and thence downwardly and upwardly to form the loop 12. The material then extends inwardly through the aperture 17 to the interior of the body member, thence upwardly through the medial opening 14 and thence downwardly to form the loop 11. The thong material then reenters the interior of the body member 10 through the medial opening 14 and extends therethrough and through the central opening 18 in the plug means or cap 16. From there the material extends downwardly and upwardly to form the loop 13, and finally the other end of the thong material is passed inwardly through the aperture 18 and anchored behind the plug means 16.

15, 16 onto the ends of the tubular body member 10. In order to prevent the looped thong 11 from being drawn into the body member 10, a knot 20-is tied in the loop 11 adjacent to and outside the body member 10.

As seen in FIGURE 1, the device is securely suspended from a tree limb 24 by inserting the limb through the upwardly extending loop 11 and then sliding the washer 21 upwardly to tightly engage the loop with the limb. Similarly, the hind legs of the rabbit shown are securely suspended from the

12 and 13 by inserting the legs through the loops and then sliding the

22 and 23 downwardly to tightly engage the animals legs in said loops.

It will thus be seen that the invention provides a novel, compact, convenient and efiective device for hanging small game for cleaning while in the field, and although but one specific embodiment of the invention has been herein shown and described it will be understood that numerous details thereof may be altered or omitted without departing from the spirit of the invention as defined by the following claims.

I claim:

1. In a small game hanging device: a substantially straight, elongated, rigid, tubular body member having spaced ends and a medial aperture therebetween; a first looped thong firmly anchored within and extending outward from the interior of said body member upwardly through said medial aperture; closure means for each of the opposite ends of said tubular body member, both of said closure means forming apertures at said ends; sec

0nd and third looped thongs firmly anchored within and extending outward from the interior of said body member through the said apertures of said closure means respectively and depending from the said spaced opposite ends of the said body elongate member; said first looped thong being adapted for attachment to an elevated support to suspend the device therefrom, and said second and third looped thongs being adapted for attachment to the legs of an animal to maintain the same in a spread condition determined by the length of the body member and the distance between its spaced ends while suspending the animal from the device.

2. A small game hanging device according to claim 1 in which washers are slidably mounted on all three looped thongs whereby any of said loops may independently be drawn tightly around any size of elevated support and about any size of animals legs to which the said thongs are attached.

A small game hanging device according to claim 1 in which the three looped thongs are formed by a single length of thong material, one end of said material being anchored in the body member behind the one closure means at one end of the body member and said material extending outwardly through the aperture formed by said one closure means and thence downwardly and upwardly to form a loop, said thong material extending thence inwardly through said one aperture into the interior of the body member and thence upwardly through said medial aperture and then downwardly to form a loop, said material extending thence through said medial aperture into the interior of said body member and thence outwardly through the other aperture formed by the other closure means at the other end of the body member and thence downwardly and upwardly to form a loop, and the other end of said thong material being turned finally inwardly through said other aperture and anchored in thebody member behind said other closure means.

4. A small game hanging device according to claim 3 in which the opposite ends of the thong material are anchored behind the respective plug means by means of knots tied in the ends of the thong material.

5. A small game hanging device according to claim 3 in which the loop extending upwardly from the medial aperture in the body member is prevented from being drawn into the body member by means of a knot tied in the loop adjacent to and'outside the body member.

Claims

1. IN A SMALL GAME HANGING DEVICE: A SUBSTANTIALLY STRAIGHT, ELONGATED, RIGID, TUBULAR BODY MEMBER HAVING SPACED ENDS AND A MEDIAL APERTURE THEREBETWEEN; A FIRST LOOPED THONG FIRMLY ANCHORED WITHIN AND EXTENDING OUTWARD FROM THE INTERIOR OF SAID BODY MEMBER UPWARDLY THROUGH SAID MEDIAL APERTURE; CLOSURE MEANS FOR EACH OF THE OPPOSITE ENDS OF SAID TUBULAR BODY MEMBER, BOTH OF SAID CLOSURE MEANS FORMING APERTURES AT SAID ENDS; SECOND AND THIRD LOOPED THONGS FIRMLY ANCHORED WITHIN AND EXTENDING OUTWARD FROM THE INTERIOR OF SAID BODY MEMBER THROUGH THE SAID APERTURES OF SAID CLOSURE MEANS RESPECTIVELY AND DEPENDING FROM THE SAID SPACED OPPOSITE ENDS OF THE SAID BODY ELONGATE MEMBER; SAID FIRST LOOPED THONG BEING ADAPTED FOR ATTACHMENT TO AN ELEVATED SUPPORT TO SUSPEND THE DEVICE THEREFROM, AND SAID SECOND AND THIRD LOOPED THONGS BEING ADAPTED FOR ATTACHMENT TO THE LEGS OF AN ANIMAL TO MAINTAIN THE SAME IN A SPREAD CONDITION DETERMINED BY THE LENGTH OF THE BODY MEMBER AND THE DISTANCE BETWEEN ITS SPACED ENDS WHILE SUSPENDING THE ANIMAL FROM THE DEVICE.
