Description
Feb. 23, 1965 3,170,170
HATTIE DESLAURIERS NEE ROBILLARD FEMALE URINAL Filed March 5, 1964 INVENTOR Half/'6' DESLAUR/ERS nee ROBILLA/PD AGENT United States Patent 3,170,170 FEMALE'URTNAL Hattie Desianriers, nee Robillard,1tl$tl David Sn, Duvernay, Quebec, Canada Fiieal Mara-5, 1964, Ser. No. 349,720
The present invention relates to a urinal for women,
more particularly adapted for use by bed-ridden women.
In order to enable a bed-ridden woman to urinate 1n a conventional pan-like urinal, the nurse must lift the patient for insertion of the urinal in proper position. This requires considerable effort on the nurses part,
especially when the patient is impotent and/or obese.
Moreover, the nurse mnst' forego more important occupations to provide this help to the Wornan-patient.
The general object of the present invention resides, therefore, in the provision of a female urinal which obviates the above-notecl disadvantages and, more particularly, enables a bed-ridden woman to use the urinal her.-
self without any help andwithout having to'raise herself. Another object of thepresent invention resides in the provision of a urinal of the character clescribed, wh1ch is provided with a handle for ease in the handling of the urinal to place it in proper position and which also serves to suspend the urinal in an accessible place, when notin' use, such as the side of the bed.
Another object of the present invention resides in the provision of a urinal of the character described, which is of relatively simple andinexpensive construction and which provides the assurance that all of the urine w1ll enter the vessel and not spill and soil or dampen the bed sheets. j
, The foregoing and other important objects of the pres ent invention will become more apparent during the following disclosure and by referring to the drawings, m which:
FIGURE 2 is a top plan view; FIGURE 3 is a front elevation; and
FIGURE 4 is a side elevation. Referring now more particularly to the drawings in which like reference characters indicate like elements end by a flat bottom 4. The upper portion of the vessel is provided with an opening or mouth 5 lying in an inclined plane relative to the long axis of the vessel whereby said mouth is inclined downwardly and forwardly with respect to the vessel. I
FIGURE 1 is a perspective view of the urinal in accordance with the present invention;
The upper edge portion 6 of mouth 5 is disposed ap- V proximately in the centraltransverse plane of the vessel, as seen in FIGURE 2, and is slightly concave. This edge portion 6 is formed by the marginal part of a curved convex top wall portion 7 which forms an extension of lateral walls 1 and of back wall 3.
The lateral edge portions 8 of mouth 5 are concave and are joined at front Wall 2 by a substantially straight ham Patented rats; as, less edgeportion 9' substantially parallel to bottom 4. 'A handle 10 in the form of a hook is rigidly secured to the top wall 7 and protrudes from the top and back of the vessel. The contour of mouth fi is preferably provided with a bead 11, of rounded cross-section.
The urinal in accordance with the invention is used in the following manner:
The female patient, who is lying on her back, places the urinal in upright position between her two legs such that the head 11 of mouth 5 will encircle the vaginal lips and bear firmly against the skin. 1
The vessel is maintained in positionbyrneans of handle 10 and/orby the top 7. The contour of mouth 5 com forms to the vaginal lips and makes a substantial liquidproof contact therewith, whereby urine cannot spill over. Because the vessel has an oval plane cross-section, itrcan be inserted in position without requiring the patient to spread her legs excessively apart.
Because front wall 2 is substantially vertical when the vessel is'in its position of use, no portion of the Vessel protrudes underneath the seat of theuser and, therefore, the latter does not have to lift orraise herself in any Way and-does not, therefore, require any help.
The vessel can rest in stable uprightposition on its flat bottom wall 4. The vessel is easy to clean and sterilize and is of inexpensive construction. If desired, the shape 0f the urinal can be modified; for instance, by elongating its oval-shaped cross-section towards the front of the vessel in order to increase its content and/or by decreasing its height to accommodate women of dilferent ages.
While a preferred embodiment in accordance with the present invention has been illustrated and described, its
is understood that various modifications may be resorted to without departing from the spirit and scope of the appended claim.
What I claim is: a
A female urinal comprising an elongated vessel having at one end a fiat bottom whereby the vessel can be positioned in upright stable position, a curved Wall defining the front, the-back and the sides of said vessel and having a substantially oval-shaped plane cross-section, a top wall merging with the back and sides of said wall, said vessel being provided with a mouth defined by the upper edge of the front and sides of said curved wall and by said top wall, the lateral edge portions of said mouth being concave, said month lying in a plane which is inclined towards the bottom and front of said vessel with respect to the long axis of said vessel, the front edge portion of said mouth being straight and substantially parallel to said bottom and in substantial alignment with the front of said curved wall.
