WILLIAM A. LEE, OF
ATENT OFrrcE.
WINFIELD, KANSAS.
PLOW.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 316,275, dated April 21, 1885. Application filed December 0, 1884. (No model!) T0 at whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, WILLIAM A. LEE, of WVinfield, in the county of Oowley andState of Kansas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Plows; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled'in the art to which it pertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to that class of plows which employ a guiding flange-wheel in lieu of a landside, the object being to provide a plow of simple, economical, and durable construction, whose parts may be readily adjusted and disconnected when necessary.
The invention consists in the combination, with a mold-board, of a frog, wheel-support, and wheel of the novel form and coarrangement hereinefter fully described, and pointed out in the claims.
In the drawings, Figure 1 represents in perspective a mold-board combined with my im proved appliances. Fig. 2 illustrates the frog detached. Fig. 3 is a rear View of a moldboard, showing the frog applied thereto. Fig. 4 represents the adjustable wheelsupport detached.
A represents the mold-board, provided near its upper edge,on"the rear side,with a bracket, B.
0 represents the frog, consisting of the flattened body portion a and the rearwardly-projecting arm a, terminating in a flat head, 0 iormed with a vertical slot, 0
D represents a rearwardly-projecting lug formed upon the body of the frog and provided with a bolt-opening, d.
E represents the wheel-support, of angle form, and provided with a flat head, 6, formed with a horizontal slot, 6. The arm 6 of the wheel-support is of journal form to receive a wheel, F, which is held in place by a linchpin, f, or equivalent means. This wheel F is provided with an annular flange, G, arranged upon the side of the wheel adjacent to the mold-board, and said wheel stands obliquely. The wheel-support E is secured to the head of the frog 0 by a bolt passing through the slots 0 and e, which are formed as above described, one vertical and the other horizontal, thus affording both a vertical and horizontal adjustment for the wheel, which latter is adapted to travel in the bottom of the furrow.
' The lug D is adapted to receive and secure the standard or rear end of the plow-beam, while the bracket B receives and secures the plow-handles.
The mold-board, it will be understood, is secured upon the frog 0.
The construction thus described affords a plow of very simple and durable form, whose parts are few and readily combined and disconnected.
The flange G upon the wheel is adapted to out into the kerf to prevent the tilting up of the plow from the rear and the consequent undue wear upon the plow-point.
The frog 0, as clearly shown in the drawings, is concave, and extends below the lower edge of the mold-board, thus firmly and completely supporting the latter, and doing away with straps and braces ordinarily employed for securing the mold-board to the adjacent parts of the plow.
Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. In a plow, the combination, with a moldboard, of a frog secured to the back of the mold-board, a wheel-support from said frog anda flanged wheel, said support having both a vertical and horizontal adjustment relative to said frog, substantially as set forth.
2. In a plow, the combination, witha moldboard provided with a bracket, as described, of a frog formed with a lug to receive the foot end of the plow-beam, and with a rearwardly projecting arm having a slotted head, a wheel-support of angle form adjustably secured to said frog, and a wheel provided with an annular flange, substantially as set forth.
In testimony whereof I have signed this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
WILLIAM A. LEE.
