Description
May 22, 1962 W. R. JONES 3,035,571
THERAPEUTIC BRASSIERE:
Filed April 13, 1959 nvenor Wfl/fam A. Jones www PA TEN 7' A TTORNEYU United States Patent G i 3,035,571 THERAPEUTIC BRASSIERE William R. Jones, 2409 33rd St. SW., Calgary, Alberta, Canada Filed Apr. 13, 1959, Ser. No. 805,840 1 Claim. (Cl. 12S-32) My invention relates to new and useful improvements to brassieres by the incorporation therein of an electrically operated dilator.
lt is well known that a bust appearance of a woman may be enhanced by increasing the circulation of blood in the breast areas, said increase in circulation promoting enlargement or dilation .and rmness of the breast. Due to the massaging eifect the device is also a muscle stimulating corrective for sagging of breasts, a condition encountered often during and after middle age. Furthermore, the massaging eect relieves tension and fatigue.
I obtain these results by providing pouches in conventional brassiere pockets Within which are inserted thin metal or composition cups to which are in turn connected electrical vibrator devices.
The principal object and essence of my invention is, therefore, to provide electrical vibrator devices which increase the circulation of blood in the breast areas and promote enlargement or dilation and firmness of the breast.
A further object of my invention is to provide a device of the character herewithin described which provides a gentle massaging eect thereby relieving tension and fatigue.
A still further object of my invention is to provide a device of the character herewithin described in which the metal or composition cups are removably situated within the pouches or pockets so that these cups are readily removable for laundering the brassiere.
With the foregoing objects in view, and such other objects and advantages as will become apparent to those skilled in the art to which this invention relates as this specification proceeds, my invention consists essentially in the arrangement and construction of parts all as hereinafter more particularly described, reference being had to the accompanying drawings in which:
FIGURE 1 is a front elevation of my device.
FIGURE 2 is a top plan view of FIGURE 1.
FIGURE 3 is a front elevation of one of the cups.
FIGURE 4 is a section of FIGURE 3 along the lines 4-4, thereof.
In the drawings like characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in the diiferent figures.
Proceeding, therefore, to describe my invention in detail, reference to the accompanying drawings will show that l have provided a brassiere collectively designated 1 consisting of a pair of breast pockets 2 adj'acently connected together by means of area 3 and having conventional shoulder straps 4 and securing strap 5 by which means the brassiere is maintained in its usual position upon the wearer.
The breast pockets 2 are formed with the usual fullness to envelop the breasts `and supply support thereto in the conventional manner and a pouch "6 is formed upon the outer surface 7 of each pocket by the securement thereto of a panel of fabric which is stitched peripherally as at 8.
This stitching extends around the major portion of the marginal edge of the panel and the unsecured portion of the marginal edge provides an entrance 9 for the pouch, which is opened or closed by a conventional sliding fastener 10.
Each pouch forming panel is provided with a central 3,035,571 Patented May 22, 1962 lCC opening 11 which is selectively coverable by means of a iiap 12 secured by means of button 13.
A convexo-concave disc 14 is manufactured from relatively thin metal or composition and is shaped to conform with the breast contour. This disc is apertured centrally as -at 15 and a cylindrical base portion 16 of a conventional vibrator is secured Within this aperture 15, it being understood that when the disc is fitted within the pouch 6, this base portion extends through the aperture 11 Within the pouch forming panel.
A body portion 17 of the vibrator is separably attached to the base portion 16 by means of a partial screw thread (not illustrated) or similar means and electrical conductor 18 extends from the vibrator to a conventional outlet plug 19 by which the device can be plugged into a source of electrical energy.
The inner surfaces 20 of the discs are lined with ilexible material such as sponge rubber 21 so that the discs, when in position in the pouches, concentrically envelop the breasts.
When it is desired to launder the garment, the discs can be removed from the pouches and laundering carried out in the usual manner.
In use, the cups are inserted within the pouches and the plug 19 is connected to a source of electrical energy thus causing the electrical vibrators to impart vibration to the metallic discs 14 and thence tothe breasts through the sponge rubber lining 21 thus applying gentle massage to the wearer.
Since various modifications can be made in my invention as hereinabove described, and many apparently widely dilerent embodiments of same made within the spirit and scope of the claim without departing from such spirit and scope, it is intended that all matter contained in the accompanying specification shall be interpreted as illustrative only and not in a limiting sense.
What I claim as my invention is:
In a therapeutic brassiere, the combination of a. breast pocket forming member having inner and outer surfaces, a panel of flexible material superposed on the outer surface of said pocket forming member and secured along a major portion of its marginal edge to the latter whereby to provide therebetween a pouch with an entrance at the unsecured portion of the marginal edge of said panel, openable closure means for said entrance, a convexoconcave disc removably positioned in said pouch through said entrance with its concave side facing the outer surface of said pocket forming member, a liner of cushioning material provided on the concave side of said disc, an electric vibrator mounted centrally on the convex side of the disc and projecting outwardly through an opening formed in said panel, said vibrator including a base portion secured to said disc and a projecting outer portion separably connected to said base portion, an electric conductor connected to the outer portion of the vibrator for energizing the same, said conductor being separable together with said outer portion of the vibrator from the base portion thereof, a :flexible ilap secured to said panel for closing said opening when the outer portion of the vibrator is separated from the base portion, and means for releasably retaining said flap in its closed position.
